Newly diagnosed

Hi, I'm new to Macmillan forums. I was diagnosed with cll in May although the Haematologist recons that I must have had it for around 7 or 8 years as all of my blood tests in the last 10 years came back with high white cell counts when I didn't seem to have any infections at the time. Anyway he has put me on watch and wait.

Yesterday I had another blow, I have been told that I have prostate cancer but a low grade one and again I have been put on watch and wait. Trying to get my head around all of this, it feels like I have been kicked in the stomach, but I mustn't moan as there are a lot of people worse off than me, and I am still alive and trying to carry on. C'est la vie.

  • Hi again , sorry to hear that you have also received a prostate cancer diagnosis, this unfortunately happens.

I see you have joined and posted in our Prostate cancer group, this will help you understand a rather different type of cancer better.

Being on Active Monitoring is a mind set, I was on AM for 14 years with my type of Lymphoma before I needed full answers n treatment so ai developed the ability to get on with work and life.

    All the best.

  • Hello Artstudio,

Sorry to read about your extra diagnosis - whatever anybody says it's a worry in all sorts of ways.

I'm the other way round, CLL was found during the intensive blood tests at the time other cancers were found.

The Highlander is a great source of knowledge and advice (thanks, Highlander) - one thing I would add is that CLL is a nuisance when you're trying to assess the possible impact of other things, due to its propensity to make you fatigued.  At the moment I'm shattered but I can't apportion it between CLL, other cancers, being anaemic or just being 78!
