Hi, I am a 21 year old female my interests are colouring, art, skincare and fitness! And I am awaiting my cancer diagnosis, and I don't want to sound like an ungrateful person for my amazing support system but I feel so isolated and alone. Everyone is being so positive but I feel devastatingly sad and angry, and I can't help but be angry at them because everytime I try to talk about it I get shut down with "Don't worry about it". I am looking at Non-chronic myeloid leukemia. I feel ill all of the time and I feel like because my results haven't come back people do not feel that how unwell I feel is valid. I am so so so exhausted, I go to work 5 days a week, 9-5 and I try to stay fit and involved in my partners life and my families but I can't cope anymore. I try to call the hospital to see if they know anything yet but I have to wait another 40 days for my results and they can't do anything about how I feel yet until they know 100% that it is cancer. Does anyone have any tips for the watch and wait / worry and wait period ?

  • Hi again  and well done navigating across to this corner of the community.

As you will know from my reply in the New to Community I have a completely different type of blood cancer..... but let's look for group members with experience of living with and being treated for Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) to pick up on your post and get back to you.

You can also click on the main ‘CML Group’ title and this will bring up all the group posts. Have a look at the posts and as always you can hit reply to any post and connect in with the wider group conversations.

You may find it helpful to call the Macmillan Support Line open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

For good information do check out Leukaemia Care UK who produce very good information and run various support platforms including their Buddy Scheme, they also have a Support Line on 08088 010 444

You may also want to check to see if you have a Maggie's Centre in your area as these folks are amazing and most centres do run monthly Heamatology Support Groups and the one I attend does have a person with CML in it so worth checking.

Always around to help more or just to chat

  • Thank you Mike, I really appreciate your help, I ordered some books from Leukemia Care UK and donated too of course! Unfortunately there are no support groups in my area, I still have 34 days until they confirm it. It's going so slowly and I am looking more unwell everyday and I feel worse everyday. I called and asked for help but they couldn't help me I am so stuck on what to do

  • Hi  these early days can be ever so difficult….. the time things take especially in blood cancers can be drawn out due to the complexities of these types of conditions.

If you look at my profile (click in the link at the bottom)….. when I was diagnosed with my first type of incurable T-Cell Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma it took a full year to get that clear diagnosis…… when my second type of T-Cell appeared in late 2013 things had improved but it still took a good 6 weeks to get clarity.

I also volunteer with the UKs main Lymphoma Charity and post Covid most of our support groups are now on Zoom.

This has ment we now reach every area of the UK and where we had a few folks attending our small number of ‘in person’ groups…… the amount of people accessing the on line groups is amazing.

Do check out the Leukaemia Care UK online zoom groups m…… as this will get you some connection.

I have been a Lymphoma buddy for a number of years and people do find that link helpful so check out the Buddy Scheme at Leukaemia Care as well as use their help line……. Talking helps.

But I am always around to chat and help out as best as I can.
