Hi I have been recently been diagnosed with stage 2 maybe 3 cervical cancer I am waiting to get my pet scan on 27th August told my treatment plan will probably be chemoradiation I have to get radiation externally & internally just wondering if anyone else had this as I really don’t know what to expect. My tumor is 5cm and is contained in my cervix & they think maybe 2 lymph nodes in my pelvis
Hi Tracey12532754 and welcome to our group.
I’m sorry to hear you’ve had this diagnosis, but you’re in the right place to be among people who understand what you’re going through. It’s hard when you know some of the details, but not all, so we know what it’s like to be in this ‘waiting for a plan’ stage.
Lots of us in the group have been through chemoradiation-I was stage 2b at my original diagnosis, with a tumour of just under 4cm, and I completed my first line of treatment back in 2018. The petscan will give you the last piece of information to determine whether you are stage 2, or stage 3 if there is lymph node involvement.
The plan should involve either chemo first followed by chemoradiation, or going straight to chemoradiation. I didn’t have lymph node involvement and so went straight to chemoradiation, where chemo and radiotherapy are done together but treatment protocols are different nowadays and even at stage 2 might involve a chemo cocktail first on its own before going onto a different type of chemo with radiotherapy.
I didn’t have the internal radiation-brachytherapy-because I wasn’t able to, so I had additional external radiotherapy sessions, but others in the group have had this as it is normally part of the plan so they’ll be able to help you with any questions you have about it.
If you have questions at all, please feel free to ask us, and I hope you’ll find it helpful to be part of the group where the lovely ladies here will be happy to help you out. It’s such a shock getting a cancer diagnosis, but it does feel better once all the scans are done and your plan is in place. Have a read through some of the other threads-some of us have been giving our experiences of treatment recently. It’s helpful too if you complete your profile details so that we can see by clicking on your name the details of your cancer and treatment. You can click on anyone’s name to read their story, and you’ll see that we’ve all been through different experiences. I hope the petscan goes smoothly for you-I found this type of scan much easier to cope with than an mri.
Sarah xx
