Hello to all you brave ladies.

I am new here today and I was diagnosed with a tumour on my cervix last week and had biopsies taken and am awaiting the results.  Apparently the tumour is clearly visible with hugely abnormal cells so expecting the worst.  I have been lurking around the forum for the last few weeks and I am totally inspired and in awe of all you very brave ladies.  You have been tremendously helpful to me and I would just like you all to know that.  I will keep you updated when I know more.  Thank you all xxx

  • Hi Sarah, how are you x  Oh gosh I wonder why they have put me forward for one?

  • Oh Slips

I didn’t mean to concern you at all about this. The hospitals where I was treated don’t have the facilities to do a pet scan, only mri and ct.

I have had a pet scan beforebut had to go to a different hospital for it and it wasn’t done at my first diagnosis.

In the USA ladies get pet scans all the time, but in my personal experience and in talking to many other women, the standard scans at diagnosis in the UK are ct and mri. Both are quicker and cheaper!

It may be something as simple as your hospital having the facility and capacity to do pet scans, but I can’t really guess. The ct scan is only on part of your body, as is the mri..but the Pet scan takes much longer and involves a radioactive tracer being injected and your whole body being scanned, so each scan does show different things.

I wouldn’t be concerned about it. Whatever scans they do will give pictures of what is going on to enable the treatment plan to be decided. xx

  • Hi Slips,

Don't worry in some hospitals pet scan is standard. I was diagnosed in May and had MRI  CT and PET scan in June I was diagnosed stage 2b had treatment in August.

I am now 12 weeks post treatment feeling fine I had very few side effects and I am.now back at work.

So no need to worry pet scan scans the whole body and can see if cancer has spread to make sure you get the correct treatment.

    Any questions just ask

    Take care x

  • Hello,

That’s amazing news I’m so happy for you :) us ladies are true warriors.
Thank you so much for your message, I really can’t wait for the waiting part to be over it’s so hard being left with your mind running wild, even tho I do understand everything takes time and they have to insure all is done correctly, just feels like a long time.
So Happy you are feeling fine and back to work.

    Big hugs x x x

  • Hi Slips, no they did not remove the tumour but took 4 biopsy samples from it!   Thank you for saying I'm brave.  Certainly don't feel it at the moment but am trying to stay strong and posiitive.  I think that is so important but not always easy.  So glad you've had your booster and I'll be relieved to get mine.  I am also very grateful for all the support from you and the lovely brave ladies on here who are so willing to share their experience and knowledge with us "beginners"  Smiley.  I hope you hear something soon and don't have to wait too long.  Hugs and strength to you xxx

  • Hi Sarah.  Thank you so much for putting my mind at ease.  It seems that everyone but me has had a combination of scans but I have only been offered the MRI at the moment.  Maybe they will do CT or Pet a little later.  It is so lovely to have people like you explaining these things to us.  Thanks sop much again xxx

  • Hi Snobird

Trust your team to know what they are doing and be providing the best plan for you. The mri was the first scan I had..then later the ct, and no pet at that time, so we’re all slightly different! Please try not to be concerned about it, but you could ask at your next appointment if there are plans for any more scans. xx

  • Hi Sarah, thank you so much.  After thinking about it for a while, ours is a small hospital and so I may not have one until I get transferred to the bigger one for treatment.  I think I will ask the question anyway if they don't mention it but you have put my mind at ease. Hope you're doing ok and thanks again, your advice really helps. xxx

  • Hi Snobird

I had my initial scans at local hospitals, then transferred to a specialist cancer hospital for treatment. When I did go for a pet scan it was at yet another different hospital! So I’ve been at 4 different hospitals in 2 different counties for different things. I’m doing fine thank you, and woke up today after a lovely sleep feeling really good and energised for housework which is very unusual for me! xxx

  • Hi Sarah,  Wow!  Housework,  there is hope!Joy  So glad to hear that you're feeling so well.  It sounds like you had to travel far and wide for your scans/treatment but all worth it to finally feel well again.  I had MRI today so I'm in the "quivering with fear" camp at the moment.  But I know that there's nothing I can change and worrying will only make things worse so trying to stay positive amd your support and all the stories on here help immensely.  Thanks for your lovely reply! xxx
