My name is Debbie. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer over 8 years ago. Although I had a clear smear, I knew something was not right. Like an idiot, I did not do anything until after my daughter’s wedding. I was part of a trial so had my chemotherapy, radiotherapy and brachytherapy simultaneous over 6 weeks. All was well for 5 years until cancer was found in my uterus. I then had a total hysterectomy. One year later I had a total exenteration which means I have a urostomy and a colostomy but no vagina except for an outlet for discharge. It sounds terrible but I am still here and enjoying life. I try to keep healthy and still manage Pilates. I would be more than happy to help anyone on a similar journey. The support group for Colostomy UK on Facebook has been a lifeline for me.
Hi Debhad and a very warm welcome to the online community
It sounds like you've been through an awful lot over the last 8 years so thanks very much for taking the time to share your experiences with us and also to offer to support anyone else going through a similar journey.
I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you pop something about your journey into your profile as it really helps others when looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
