Hi everyone I’m just looking to see if there is anyone on this page that is about my age just turned 26 and my mother found out she had cervical cancer. She has been on two MRI scans now which to be told the cancer has spread the cervix to behind the wall of her womb, down into the vagina, into her ovaries, lymph nodes, and possibly into her spleen and lungs. this is one hell of a shock. They have said it’s not curable but can offer her radio therapy and if the radiotherapy works they might give her chemo but chances are very very slim. They have basically said to make her comfortable. she starts radio therapy on Monday and I just want to know if anyone else is going through the exact same thing and how they are doing on radio. I know people will react differently. But it’s nice to know how others are doing good or bad just so I can get an idea. thanks Emma

  • Hello Emma

I'm so sorry to hear that your Mum and you are going through this. If you look at my profile you will see that I am not in the same situation but I wanted to make you aware of the charities Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and the Eve Appeal. They both have a forum and a helpline where you can find support specialising in women's health. MacMillan also has a family and friends group where you can find support for yourself as well as the MacMillan helpline. My heart goes out to you. I have a daughter just a few years older than you. It must be so difficult for you. Make sure you take care of yourself as well as your Mum.

    I hope this helps

Hi Emma. I find myself in a similar situation to you. My mum was admitted to hospital 2 weeks ago and has since found out she has cervical cancer which has spread to many other organs. I am 30, she is 50. She is so unwell she is not strong enough for treatment currently, and might never be. I was wondering how your mum got on with treatment?

Hello Kirsty. Very sorry to hear about your mum. My mam has finished her 5 week treatment on Friday. 3 weeks of it she was in hospital with a water infection and another one starting. She hadn’t passed water properly but she was ok. But in a lot of pain. She just had radio therapy not chemo. My mam was ok to be honest it was more the worry of the unknown. Basically for her the 1 hour 15 min drive was the horrible part because she was needing the toilet often. But she was only in having treatment for 6 minutes long. I would phone her straight after worrying if she would be ok but she would say she was fine. Was just painful during that’s what she would say to me. She’s come home today after all that time in. It was more being away from her family she’s found hard. I’ve kept myself very busy by cleaning her house and spraying every door with disinfectant so I know she’s got a clean home. My mams eating went a bit crap in the first few weeks she lost some weight but she is eating more now. Just needing the toilet every two minutes.. she has come home with a catheter but one where she inserts herself and empties more to do with her getting some rest and not up every minute due to the urine infection. She has had a couple of stents and 2 blood transfusions as she did lose a lot of blood but she’s been ok. You will have your sad days then some good days but you do gradually get stronger and stronger for her. If you ever want a chat my email is. nice to hear from someone a similar age
