Any reason why my telephone call with my consultant would be cancelled and arranged with a different consultant face to face? I’m confused and the secretary won’t give me any answers.
There could be a number of reasons, but it’s impossible to guess what they could be. While I was going through treatment, and then preparing for surgeries, I only ever had face to face appointments-they were never by phone. I preferred that as I would rather discuss things face to face and ask questions directly.
I didn’t always see my usual consultant but was happy to see other members of the team-for example when it was proposed that my surgeon would carry out a salvage hysterectomy, I didn’t meet with her, but arranged everything with the lead consultant in her team at an appointment with him. I didn’t know in advance I would be seeing someone else, but my consultant wasn’t available I was told.
As you are currently in treatment, it may be to discuss your progress so far, it may be to discuss changes, or it may even be as simple as staff availability on the day. The secretary may not know why-she is just dealing with the instructions she’s been given-but try not to be too worried. I know it can be unsettling when plans change, but sometimes it happens, and unfortunately often without any explanation.
