I have been having pain in my lower pelvis for a few months now, back pain and watery discharge. I was in the bath and decided to check myself, inside I could feel lumps/spots at the very top of my cervix. Inside feel really sore too. I have not had a sexual relationship in over a year and I have been tested for STI last year which all was clear. My smear is not due until mid July 2025 and I have asked the doctor if I could request an early one but they said without the nhs letter they can’t do one but they can check by doing an internal. I just feel like I am been robbed off my my doctors they are the worst practice ever.

It’s true that your doctor cannot do a smear test earlier than the date that it is due, as that date is decided by the cervical screening programme which sends out the letters asking you to go for the test.
However, the doctor can do other tests to investigate any symptoms you are having and it seems like that what is being suggested. I’d honestly recommend that you make an appointment with your gp and get checked. Explain that you have been having pain, discharge and are sore inside. These are symptoms which should be investigated.
Your gp would examine you and can make a referral to see a gynaecologist or for you to be seem at the colposcopy clinic. Maybe give them a call tomorrow and ask for an appointment? I appreciate that it’s sometimes difficult to be seen at your doctor’s surgery, but I definitely would say you should get examined. This would put your mind at rest, or you could know that your being referred to a specialist, and either way you’ll be reassured that something is being done.
