So I just had it done, got no feedback, had 3 biopsies done, on the nhs app the letter sent to my doctor said,
Colposcopy today showed a rather inflamed suspicious looking cervix with some aceto white changes but it was difficult to grade the abnormality. I have taken 3 biopsies and the results are Awaited.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had this as I’m going out my mind! I’m a stupid 38 year old and was my first smear
Hi Dee19841961 and welcome to the group
I think the reason you don’t get feedback on the day is that the doctor needs to wait for the biopsy results to come back to see what’s going on. At the moment, no-one can tell for sure.
The colposcopy is to have a close examination of your cervix and a liquid is put on to see if any cell changes are identified- this is the aceto white changes mentioned in the letter. Because changes have been seen, biopsies are taken to be sent to the lab to identify the level of these changes.
Please don’t think of yourself as stupid for not going for your smear before now-there are many reasons women don’t attend, and you are not alone in this!
The next thing is the wait for results-were you given any idea how long this would take? I didn’t have quite the same situation as my gynaecologist could see a tumour when he examined me, and I had a couple of biopsies taken to test for sure what it was. He just called it a lesion while I was there.
Try not to let your mind race while you wait, and can I suggest you don’t use dr Google to try and anticipate your results as that can make you more anxious.
We all know how stressful the waiting for results is, but hopefully it won’t be too long before you know. Please keep in touch and ask any more questions you need to.

I just thought they did a swab or whatever, then decided if needed a biopsy, he just said that’s what I was there for. How are you anyway Sarah?
The liquid that is put on the cervix shows if there are abnormalities in the cells, so because it did show there is some abnormality it’s standard to take biopsies to check things out. It’s a long wait for results nowadays, which can be tough. I was diagnosed pre covid times and only had to wait a week for results which was much easier.
I’m doing ok thank you. It’s 4.5 years since my first diagnosis-seems like a long time ago now! If you click on anyone’s name and they have completed their profile information you can read their stories. But my personal story is different to many others as I was unlucky enough to have the cancer come back so don’t let it put you off!
