Hi

How long is a normal appointment for first radiotherapy appointment before treatment. My appointment is 9.45 and my husband has to be somewhere at 1.00 was wondering if he should take me

Thanks DLT

  • Oh Angela, my decision would have been different now for sure after everything I’ve had to endure. I admit I didn’t want to lose my hair, but that seems so minor now when I’ve lost everything from my pelvis! I had this thought that I didn’t want my kids to see me as a cancer patient. But if I were in the position to be offered it now, with all that I know, I would definitely go for it. As you say, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

  • Has anyone said yes to the trial and not been given the extra chemo

  • As this trial in now in the final stages (phrase 3) there must be some proven evidence it is working.  However they will not know the actual effects for a few more years after the study has finished.

One positive of being on the trial is that you are closely monitored and have extra support via trial nurses etc.

  • I  am going to try the cooling cap to help avoid the hair loss.  I will keep you updated on progress

I decide to take part following a conversation with someone who had the standard treatment a few years ago and would also have take up the offer if a available.

Also, any results would help inform future treatments which could affect future family member or friends.

  • I really want to do the trial only thing thats given me doubts is don't know how long I will have to wait to start treatment and if I wait then don't get selected for the extra chemo and I have lost time. It's really giving me a headache as don't want to make wrong decision. Ahh Tired face

  • I only said yes yesterday and my first chemo session is booked for next week.  They really bent over backwards to get things started quickly   I think it maybe due to the trial recruitment end date is fast approaching.

Speak to the hospital and they should be able to give you estimated timescale

Overall it is your decision and you know what is best for you and your family.

  • Hi

I don’t personally know anyone who has gone on the trial and not had the extra chemo, but there must be ladies in this position as half of the participants get the extra induction chemo and half don’t. This randomisation made me uncomfortable, in case I didn’t get the extra chemo, but at the time of being offered the trial I was not nearly as knowledgeable on cervical cancer as I am now.
