Can anyone help me feel better im starting chemotherapy and radiotherapy on Monday.

I'm very anxious about chemotherapy I just carnt sleep I think its rhe fear of the unknown, I'm terribly sceard I have 5.5 weeks to go through xx

  • Hi

It IS fear of the unknown, that’s exactly it. Chemotherapy for me was an absolute breeze and it felt like a nice day out! Sitting in a comfy chair, food and drink brought to me…it was absolutely fine. It’s only a low dose of chemo…just to make the radiotherapy more effective. But if you have any type of effects from the treatment, you just need to tell your team and they will sort it. Radiotherapy was harder for me, I have to admit, but still it it is manageable, and again your team will be able to sort out any side effects. Try not to overthink things.

  • Thankyou Sarah I must admit I am overrhinking things now, I'm going for my chemo assessment tomorrow, I'll just try take one day at a time xxx

  • It’s really easy to overthink everything when you don’t know how it’s going to be. Chemo was the easiest part of this for me. Definitely take things one step at a time,

  • Well this is a bit of a hard one to answer as everyone is different and you never know how each individual will react to the chemo. You can get any number of side effects so its best to deal with them as they arise, your medial team will be experts at dealing with whatever happens and as long as you communicate well with them they will help.  Obviously nausea and sickness is a common one and I suffered but my team tried several different medications until they found one that worked… you don’t need to suffer, something will work.

  • I start this Monday 16th May O also am feeling anxious.  Its not so much about the treatment it's more about will it work for me. I am having radiotherapy as well and knowing that I have to wait with a full bladder for 2 hours is stressing me out. I barely last 10 mons after drinking a small glass. I have fibramyalga  so I already suffer with chronic fatigue  . I am lucky to have a lot of support.

  •  hi Poppiesue Omg 2 hours? Why so long? I'm sure you'll be fit to burst Scream I would query that long wait.

    Hope it all goes well

  • They have to do ultra sound before each treatment to make sure they can see my bladder and target the area  and avoid the bladder .

  • Hi, yes that is what happens but my wait was a maximum of 40 mins( unless there was a delay). The scan is done on the same table/bed right before radio is given,so once they have you in a good position the whole procedure is usually about 15/20 mins long. I couldn't hold my pee for that long so am feeling for you.

  • That sounds like a very long wait after drinking the water…my bladder was checked while on the table for radiotherapy - the staff can see it on the machine. I was sometimes sent out again to drink more water, but would not have been able to hold my bladder for 2 hours.

I hope it turns out to be that long-I’ve never heard of an ultrasound bladder check and 2 hour wait for any of the ladies I’ve spoken to before. Hopefully it will go smoothly for you.
