Been told of my specialist nurse...I will find out when I see my consultant on 29th April I will get a internal...he will tell.me then if he feels or sees cancer...feeling so anaxios now xx

  • The only internal exam I had was an internal scan by a lovely lady gynecologist, right at the beginning of all this..after that it was scans only so I think that's the road you should be on now but all hospitals are different xx

  • My consultant does the internal...so if he feels anything suspicious he sends ya for urgent mri...so really sceard now coz only having a partial response don't think it's gonna be good...never felt more scrard in my life xx

  • Oh sorry I see now Nahla and you're right I think I'm due an internal possibly 6 weeks post treatment so that is quite normal in my hospital. Then 4/6 weeks after that it's an MRI for final prognosis. So try not to worry I'm sure other ladies will jump on an confirm that's this is a normal procedure xxStar2

  • I had a check up 6 weeks after treatment finished and had an internal. Had an internal at each check up after that too, thankfully. Otherwise things might have ended up differently for me.

After the mri 3 months after treatment, it’s common not to have any further scans unless you have symptoms, which I didn’t-hence being glad to get an internal at each checkup.

  • Hi Sarah

I knew about the 6 week internal and the 3 month MRI but didn't realize it was all internal checkups going forward! I hate internals more than anything so not looking forward to those but obviously it's very necessary. Thanks for the info xx

  • Hi Angela

It’s very common in America to get frequent scans, but it in the UK it’s definitely not the norm although hospital trusts do differ. Most women I speak to got a 3 month mri and nothing further in terms of scans unless they had symptoms like bleeding or pain etc. I didn’t particularly like the internal each time, but if it wasn’t for that my recurrence wouldn’t have been picked up as I had no symptoms that the cancer was back. Just thankful for a sharp eyed consultant!

Not sure if it will be the same at your hospital Angela-just check when you go for your next appointment. I had the internal and a feel about of my tummy and groin-I guess checking for any enlarged lymphnodes, some questions about how I was doing and that was it.

  • My friend got excellent response to treatment with minimal disease showing..

Got her 6wks internal found cancer she he was shocked coz of the great response...that's why I'm so anaxios coz I only had partial response so I'm fearing the worst now...can't get out the dark mood xxx

  • Brilliant Sarah

That makes it all sound necessary and not so scary xx

  • Oh Nahla I wish I could take some of your anxiety away for you Broken heart I will be a bag of nerves when it's my turn for exam and MRI but for now I'm trying hard to push it to the back of my mind which is hard. I got the bus(1st time in years using public transport) and just wandered round town centre buying absolutely nothing but it was a good distraction. Wish I could help more xx

  • Nahla,

It’s such an anxious time, but I wish you could find some distraction from it. The thing is, we can’t change anything-the result will be whatever it is, and we can do nothing about it. It’s difficult not to worry-of course it is, I was exactly the same. But worry sucks all the pleasure out of the present time and doesn’t get actually get us anywhere.

It’s difficult too because we all compare ourselves to others, and yet we are all individuals and what happens for someone else might not be anything like what happens for us. Try to hang in there and find ways to take your mind off it.
