Hi this is my first time sending a message. I have finished chemo and radio and just had 1st session of brachytherapy this week. I now have blisters filled with water all over my backside some of these are really large has anyone experienced this please? I need to have my final session of brachytherapy on Wednesday but no idea how I'm going to manage it with all of these blisters any help would be really appreciated
Hi Sunset and welcome to our group!
I’m so sorry to hear about your blisters-that sounds really nasty- and I don’t have any experience of this to draw on, but if any of the other ladies do, they will come along to say hello and give advice. The difficulty with blisters apart from the fact they are uncomfortable is the potential risk of infection if they burst.
I think it would be a good idea to be in touch with your CNS before you go for your brachy to see if they can offer any advice from a medical perspective. Can you give them a call on Monday?
Meanwhile, I hope you find the group a helpful place-we have a lovely bunch of ladies and we all support and encourage each other. Your experiences of going through treatment will be very helpful to the other ladies coming up to this, and we have some ladies who are just finished or are about to finish so there’s always someone to chat to with any issues and you know they’ll understand.
Sarah xx
Thanks Sarah, the blisters appeared in the hospital so the nurses and doctors are aware and took photos. All the signs of infection were explained and luckily this does not appear to be the case.
The blisters then started to appear on my right side too last night but I used the Radiotherapy cream I was given and that has helped that side.
The left side is too blistered to use the cream just yet. I have a feeling that the skin reactions maybe a delayed reaction to radiotherapy possibly. I could be wrong but just good the flamigel has helped on one side.
I would be happy to help anyone through this journey as it can be tough and your right everyone has thereon experiences which can help others too xxx
Hi Sunset
I’m glad the team are aware and will keep a close eye for you. It does sound quite bad for you though. I had a huge blister during treatment which was on my leg and actually nothing to do with any treatment-I was stupid enough to spill boiling water on my leg! I went to A&E and got hooked up to in antibiotics and when it burst it was actually ok and healed up. Luckily it was on the front of my leg and not my bum!
How long do you have to be in for the brachy?
I’m so pleased you will stay with us to help other ladies with support to get through this-it is very tough and intense. How have you been through the treatment apart from the blisters? How are you feeling?

Hi Sunset, so sorry you're having to deal with this. I just had my final brachy this week. I didn't get blisters but due to the runnies I was extremely sore in my backside throughout brachy. I put toilet paper in between my bum cheeks to stop it rubbing which did help but I just came to give you some support and I really hope you can get this cleared up very soon xxx
Thanks Snobird and Sarah. Snobird that's great news you have had your final one hope you are doing ok? I was relatively ok with chemo and radio which I felt really lucky about but brachy has been tough I was also really sick with the pain relief. I know the blisters won't last forever it's just it tough enough to go through everything never mind a curve ball like this.
I spoke to the hospital and they are going to arrange for my oncologist to call me in Monday to discuss the plans for this week. They can do whatever they need to I just need to get this final session done.
The nurses have said they have not seen something like this before so hopefully that's reassuring for others reading this if they are about to have it. Last thing I want to do is concern anyone.xx
Hi only just saw this about blisters from brachy ...I had lots too ,district nurse came every other day to dress, all gone now not even a mark....hang on in there ..it was on my second treatment and didn't get worse x
Thanks so much I've now had my 2nd brachy and more blisters but know they will heal painful at the moment but hopefully will be better soon. Thanks again for reaching out. I'm just so relieved and overwhelmed that the treatment is actually over. It's a very strange feeling xx
It's strange ..but relieving ,however I found the time after treatments the hardest in a strange way ...after being so intense ..you may feel abandoned ...worry not ..use your treatment helpline ..and your GP ..I felt much better after using both ..for a couple of minor problems...all sorted out quickly ...
