Hi in Aug I had a radical hysterectomy and so had my lymph nodes removed in groin. I was told it could be numb for a few months but it’s 6 months and if they are not aching, they are shooting electric shocks down them. Has anyone got tips on how to help with the aching and pain? Plus how long it you go until you could feel that area again without numbness?
thank you
kelly
Hi Kelly and welcome to the group.
I’m sorry to hear you’re still having some issues-have you let your doctor know? I’m sorry I don’t have the experience to be able to offer any advice as my surgery was different, but I’d recommend having a chat with your doctor or your CNS. I’m assuming you are still having check ups?
Hopefully some of the other ladies in the group might pop along to chat if they’ve had a similar experience they can share.

Hi Sarah
I have been telling my consultant about it since operation and up to now they just said to just let it heal but I am due another check up in April (having every 4 months) and consultant when called me to discuss mri results (which not back yet) we spoke about my pains all over, my leg and not being able to return to work cause back is bad too.
I was hoping by now to feel like a 48 young lady but feel 88 right now.
Hi Kelly
Ah, I can definitely sympathise with the feeling like an old lady! It can take quite a while to recover from a radical hysterectomy, it’s a major surgery, but your pains do seem to having quite a bad effect on your life, especially if you’re not able to go back to work yet.
Are you on any pain medication currently? If you are, maybe they need to try something else for you? Although I’m sure you just want to be feeling more back to normal rather than popping pills. I think I’d be phoning again to say how much it’s affecting you and asking what they can suggest.

There are other medications which might help specifically with the type of pain your’e having, so I think I’d ask your consultant if he could suggest something.
I’ve had lymph nodes removed as part of my surgery, and I do have discomfort on one side, right at the top of my leg/groin but it’s achy more than anything else. I am not on any medication, and I’ve never actually mentioned it to my consultant. I’m fine when I’m sitting or lying down, and if it is achy I tend to just to have a water bottle on it. That’s usually my answer to everything!
But I do think your consultant should be looking to help you more now that you’re quite far out of surgery.

Hi Sarah
mine aches laying down, standing, sitting. So everything I do lol. when did you have your operation? If I was you I’d tell your consultant too. I did look it up at start and said could be up to 12 months for numbness to stop but it also could never come back. It is better than was but I can’t be touched on it and as said gives my electric shocks down legs.
Hi Kelly
I had my surgery, not quite the same as yours, 2 years ago. I’m older than you…so I just accept things as being because of my age and how major my surgery was and how long the recovery was. One thing I don’t have is any numbness though. And no electric shock feelings.

Hi Kelly
If you click on my name you can read my story. I have had a total pelvic exenteration so smear tests don’t feature for me any more.
