Hi all
Been hanging around here for a few weeks and have to say the chat has bought me some comfort but needed to get this out and off my chest
I had my coloscopy on 6th Jan and was to by the consultant that it was early stage cervical cancer that she was taking a biopsy and that they were sending me for a mri at clatterbridge. Of course head was everywhere as was my families.
Turned up to my appointment to be told they weren't expecting me to be there that they were spose to do appointment over phone. They needed to take another biopsy as the first one was inconclusive but the mri did not show anything.
So luckily with being in the hospital they managed to be book me in for the biopsy the next day which was end of Jan.
Got results 2 weeks after saying that it showed cin3 and that was going to an mdt on 14th Feb.
Had to call to chase these results and was basically told I was getting discharged.
I've asked to go back to the consultant to ask few questions. Really all over the place from being told it was cancer to now its precancerous.
Really anxious now as to whether it's all gone and what of its not or what if it comes back.
Was just wondering has anyone else experienced anything similar and what did they do
Hello Emmsie and welcome to our group!
I’ll start by saying I haven’t experienced the same situation as you’ve found yourself in, but perhaps I can offer some views on it.
The consultant in January could have thought she was seeing early stage cancer, but in reality that can only be confirmed by a biopsy result. It is unusual in my experience to be sent for an mri before a biopsy result, as an mri cannot pick up any tiny cancer-it needs to be a certain size to be seen on images.
When your biopsy result showed CIN3, your case would have been discussed at the mdt maybe because of the discrepancy between the consultant’s opinion and the biopsy result, plus the fact your original biopsy was inconclusive.
You haven’t mentioned anywhere being scheduled for treatment for the CIN3? These are the highest grade of abnormal precancerous cells and should be removed. It is unlikely they would clear by themselves and the usual next step would be to have the abnormal cells removed via a lletz procedure in clinic. Can you tell me if you’ve had this done please?
if you haven’t had this done, then you should ask the consultant why not. It won’t just go away on its own and there is the risk that it could become worse. Lower levels of CIN are often left and the patient is monitored to check that the cells have regressed, but not at CIN3.
The hpv virus causes these abnormal cell changes so it is unfortunately possible to have this situation arise again as there is no cure for hpv. Usually the body can clear the virus in the sense that it can become dormant/inactive, but it can become active at a future date and cause further problems. Attending all of your screening appointments means that any changes can be picked up at an early stage, before they ever turn to cancer.
It must have been shocking for you to be told you had cancer and then told you didn’t, so I think it’s important that you have another appointment with the consultant to clarify everything. CIN3 does need treatment.
I can completely understand why you’re so anxious about all of this, but please feel free to post in the group and let us know how you get on. Try not to overthink it for the moment-you have been told it’s CIN3, so not cancer.

Hi Emmsie
Oh, this sounds like very good news for you. I hope that lessens your worries, but it will be useful for you to have the appointment with the consultant so that everything can be properly explained to you. Good luck with everything and hopefully everything will now be fine for you.
