Hi , had chemo & radiotherapy and Brachiotherapy for cervical cancer , finished treatment about a month ago , now starting with hot flushes and itchy skin only affects me at night , looking like the start of early menopause, anybody gone / going through the same

  • Hi Nub

Pelvic radiotherapy treatment will put anyone into the menopause who hasn’t already gone through it, so I’m sure there will be others who have experienced this. I was post menopausal at diagnosis so unfortunately can’t help with this one-it was already over for me. xx

  • Hi Nub,

I am in the same boat as yourself.

    how are you managing?

  • Hi, I’m going through the same hot flushes. A friend bought me some cooling gel inserts for my pillows which help at night. I’ve not yet had itchy skin so can’t comment on that. I’ve had to go back and wear summer pjs which has helped a bit with feeling cooler. X

  • Bed time is the worst isn’t it. My PJ’s are on and off like a yo-yo!

I have started HRT and I have noticed a massive difference, it’s amazing. Have you started HRT?

  • Yep, layers on and off combined with needing the loo every couple of hours - argh! No HRT yet as I’m still having treatment so will see what the next month or so brings. It sounds helpful though which is good!

  • Oh yes the loo.... that’s a law in itself!

oh are you still in treatment, hopefully you don’t have much longer?  I didn’t need to wait too long after treatment to start the HRT. The HRT specialist did say some oncologists prefer patients to wait 12 months after treatment however  mine allowed it to go ahead before that.

  • Next week is my final treatment week, yippee. I had 6 weekly double chemo sessions and then moved to 5 weeks of daily radio with one weekly chemo. Looking forward to some time without appointments for sure. But then need to play the waiting game to see if everything worked ok. Will see what consultant says about HRT etc in the next week or so. Thanks for the info, useful to know x

  • Hi Jen and welcome to the group.

I don’t think I’ve seen you here before but you are very welcome to be with us. It’s so good to be coming to the end of treatment, but it does feel strange at first not going for daily appointments! Fingers crossed everything has been very successful-the radiotherapy does keep working in your body for a time when treatment ends, hence the need to wait for a follow up scan. I found it particularly difficult to wait for the results of that-I had a long wait!

Take care and all the best for your final week. xx

  • Your plan sounds similar to mine. I had chemo on it’s own then moved onto chemo and radio combined, I then had brachytherapy too.

Hopefully the HRT can be an option for you, my personal experience has been very positive with it.

how are you feeling after all the treatment?
