So I have had my surgery today - a radical hysterectomy with lymph nodes removal.

I have to say I've been a complete anxious mess for the past few days! I have a morphine button and I'm not quite there with the pain being managed.

My consultant has just come in and he thinks he's got the cancer but everything he took out is going for testing to check so I may still need some additional treatment.

Now I've got to get through this recovery! I'm dreading trying to get up and move about! At the moment I have a catheter and o had an epidural along with anesthesia. I'm also dreading sitting down! In my mind it sounds painful and awkward!

  • Hi , it's me Barb from over in the Womb Group. Good to hear the op's over. I also had an epidural along with the anaesthesia and was glad I did. I felt discomfort rather than pain but it's important to stay on top of the pain the nurses told me - don't let it take over and ask for more help if necessary. I woke up the next morning with a catheter in but they removed it almost immediately - it didn't hurt, just a weird feeling as they removed it!

Yes I did have twinges getting out of bed but I was up and moving around as soon as I could.

Histology - testing of what they've removed - normally takes two to three weeks so it's back to the anxious waiting game unfortunately.

Sending you gentle hugs, Barb xx

Hi Barb, thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I had a complication so I've been screaming and crying in pain and this is the first day where I've been starting to feel like myself again. I still have my catheter in which I'm finding very unpleasant but I'm not able to get to the bathroom myself at the moment. Today I managed to walk back from the bathroom and sit in a chair for a couple of hours which are both firsts. My anaesthesiologist has been amazing and has been tweaking my pain medication everyday to try and find something that works. Thankfully (I hope!) The complication is resolving itself now and I'm really hoping I can get home soon and get some sleep!! I had a full abdominal inscision rather than keyhole and it's much bigger than I expected!!xx
