Hi

firstly I hope everyone reading this is well

I have been booked in for a colposcopy next week from my gp who said all my symptoms are worrying.

however I’m not sure why I need a colscopy as she checked my cervix (internal examination) and did say that looked fine

so my question is is there anyone who, like my self the cervix appears to be normal but a colposcopy picked up cancer?

Thankyou in advance x

Hi MarieXx welcome to the forum. Im wondering if the reason for the Colposcopy is to look at the cervix in microscopic view also the vaginal and  vulval area . Im assuming that this is because the GP Is concerned about your symptoms and they want to check that all is well or are their changes occurring  that they cant see at cellular level which the colposcope will show up  and may need biopsies to be taken.

Thats not to say that they will find anything at all but always best to check it all out thoroughly so I imagine that's why they want to do the Colposcopy.

    Thankyou Gail for your reply

    I hope your well

ahhhh I see, that makes sense

I was confused as I do have bleeding during sex, bleeding between preriods , painful sex , a change in discharge and a constant full pressure in my pelvic area ( but have no sexual disease / uti and have just had a ultrasound which was fine)

so I think they’re now focusing on my cervix ( but when she looked it appeared to be fine , and my smears have always been fine)

so I was really confused to why a colposcopy would show anything with smears especially normal .

Is a colposcopy likely to pick up cc when the cervix look fine do you know? X

    thankyou

    Hi Marie,

My gynaecologist said that my cervix looked fine but after the colposcopy, cancer was picked up. I had a normal smear the year before. Your symptoms are typical of CC. The sooner you have the biopsies done the better. The best of luck. Four leaf clover
