Hi everyone, I just want to get other people’s experiences on vaginal discharge after treatment. Is this normal or should I be worried?
I know that discharge is a symptom of cervical cancer but thought it would go away after treatment. This doesn’t seem to be the case for me. Has anyone else have any experiences or advice they can share?
Hi Funsize
Discharge can be completely normal after treatment and last for quite a time. When is your next check up due? I’d bring it up just to get some reassurance, or you could give your CNS a call for a chat if you’re concerned, and not due for a check up soon. If it looks strange or smells odd, I’d ask for a swab just to make sure there’s no infection there.
I still have a small amount of discharge, which I wasn’t aware would still happen, despite having my vagina removed but I was told by my consultant and my gp that this was normal.
Sarah xx
Thank you Sarah, you’ve put my mind at rest. It doesn’t look or smell unusual, I just assumed it would go away after treatment. I’m next seeing the consultant in November so will mention it then but after what you have told me I’m sure it is completely normal.
Thank you again for your advice xx
Hiya Funsize my discharge did stop briefly during treatment and for a little while after brachy… then it returned and it was triggering, I had a uti, took antibiotics and thought it would go, nope still here, had it swabbed for an infection, nothing. Just yellow discharge. Sometime has a smell reminiscent of when I had problems and diagnosed initially. I’m thinking it may be a side effect to the hrt or it’s just something a lot go through whilst the radiation is still working? I’m unsure. I have my first scan after treatment at the end of October so I will ask if/when I speak to my oncologist x
Hi Windythistle, thank you for your reply. It’s reassuring knowing I’m not alone with this. I also had antibiotics during treatment, but I think it was a “just in case” as I didn’t have any symptoms of a UTI. My discharge is quite watery and to the point where I’m having to wear pads all the time. I’m also having problems with urinating, it’s just dribbling out and the amount doesn’t equate to the amount I’ve drunk. So I don’t know if it’s all connected or not. I will ask at my next appointment in November.
I hope all goes well with your first scan and you get the results you want xx
