Hi all,
I’m having a colonoscopy examination on Monday. I have had smelly discharge for about 4 weeks and it is browny, sometimes I feel like I am wetting myself there is so much!
After reading up on cervical cancer it mentions bleeding which I have also had a bit of and it is uncomfortable having sex for a few years (this is since having children so I could just be reading google and think I have all the symptoms like you do!)
I have also had a pain in one of my legs for a few weeks, it started around my bum/hip and has now moved to my knee and shin but only really hurts when sitting down.
Because of my smelly discharge I have been tested for vaginal infection, the results came back today normal. I also had a smear the same day. I told the doctor I could feel a lump inside me and she could feel the same which is why she has sent me for a colonoscopy. Smear results were going to take a month so she said it would be beat to have a camera as this would be sooner - bit worrying!
I suppose what I’m asking is has anyone else had these symptoms and what was the outcome?
obviously I think I have cancer and would rather know sooner rather than later if this is the case. It says in my appointment letter that if they have to do a biopsy results will take up to 4 weeks which is ages!
Any opinions would be great, I know your not doctors!!
thanks
Hi Frankey
Sorry you find yourself in this worrying situation.
I was diagnosed with stage 2A cervical cancer following symptoms (I hadn't had a smear test for more than12 years when I started to get these). My symptoms started with a persistent (daily) yellow, watery, non-itchy, odour-free (some women get smelly discharge) vaginal discharge which I managed using panty liners. Sounds silly now but I had this discharge for about 3-4 months before going to the GP - thought it was just a minor infection but the swabs came back negative. About that time the discharge became more pinky brown in colour and then suddenly I had bleeding very similar to a period which was when I started to panic as I was postmenopausal. Went straight back to the GP who referred me for urgent gynaecology appointment - I bypassed the colposcopy clinic as I was unable to cope with a speculum - neither my GP or 2 gynaecologists could manage to insert even the smallest speculum! The gynae referred me for a hysteroscopy under GA as it was thought I likely had fibroids; my cancer was found during the hysteroscopy - as soon as i came round from the GA the Dr told me that she could see significant abnormalities on my cervix and it was probably cancer. Besides the discharge and bleeding I didn't have any other symptoms.
It's good you don't have too long to wait for your colposcopy as waiting can make for a very anxious time.
Hope all goes well for you.
