Hi everyone

Im not sure where to start so be warned of off roading. Lol.

I found out the day seeing our loved ones became against the law, as great as technology is, I have cancer is a face to face conversation so I have opted to say nothing for now. I am also lucky enough to have a friend that is far enough away that technology is a god send & I am blessed to have her, she has been an angel.

If any of you have children with additional needs so treatment has had to be carefully planned I would love to hear your thoughts and stories

Thank you

  • Hi

A very warm welcome to the online community, although I'm very sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis.

I wondered if this information from Macmillan on talking to children about cancer might help you to explain things to your daughter. There is a section on talking to children with learning difficulties which includes a link to the National Autistic Society who have information on helping children prepare for a change.

We are all different and there's no right or wrong in deciding when and how to tell people about our diagnosis. I understand that you'd rather tell people in person but that might not be possible for some considerable time.

As my friends and family live all over the country it wasn't practical to go and see them so I did tell them via Facetime. It can be a difficult subject to bring up so you might want to take a look at how to tell people you have cancer before you make that first call.

It's entirely up to you who you tell and I only told my close friends and relatives.

    Wishing you all the best
