Hey,

Apologies for coming here and if this is out of turn as I do not have a diagnosis, I have been reading some posts and amazed by the bravery and love of the people here, I just wanted to ask some questions.

This may sound far fetched so wanted to post here before going to the doctors and sounding neurotic! I suffer from health anxiety and don't know if my mind is just running away with me.

Bit of background:

*I'm 31 and have had 2 normal smears in the past, last one 2 years ago.

*I gave birth 5 months ago

*My partners ex had cervical cancer which means I am most likely a carrier of high risk HPV

*Blood tests done all normal, cervix visualized by 3 doctors who diagnosed erosion, pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound both fine, also had stool samples taken for bowel issues all come back fine.

Symptoms:

*spotting after sex

*Clear watery discharge most days

*random pelvic pains and some pains near kidneys at times, the pain is very mild and only lasts a few mins at a time.

*Mucus with some bowel movements and looser stools.

*Feeling of tightness in throat, kind of like someone is pressing gently on the outside or like something is stuck inside. Doesnt hurt to swallow or eat. This comes and goes, I haven't mentioned this to the doctor yet but also not sure if I have an enlarged lymph node there too.

*Weight loss

My questions are...

*Has anyone had bowel issues with cervical cancer? If so what were they and what stage were you diagnosed?

*Can transvaginal scan pick up cervical cancer, especially if it was advanced?

*Can you get cervical/anal/oral cancer at the same time due to HPV?

*Am I completely overthinking this considering I had a normal smear two years ago? I've become concerned that my pregnancy could've weakened my immune system and allowed the HPV to come out from being dormant. Ive also read that vaginal births can allow the cancer to push further into membranes and cause spread so have completely freaked myself out.

I'm back at the gynaecologist on Wed to request a colposcopy but didn't want to seem absolutely mad by laying all this on him. Gynae and doctors seem pretty adamant I don't have cancer but have also read that visual inspection of cervix is not very accurate and lots of stories of misdiagnosis.

Thank you for reading if you got this far!

  • Hi

I'm sorry to hear about all your issues and it must be very frustrating for you not knowing what's causing them. However, it does sound like your GP and gynaecologist are taking you seriously and trying to find out what is wrong.

I don't have any experience with cervical cancer but I've found this information from Macmillan which tells you about the symptoms of cervical cancer. Hopefully, as both your gynae and doctor don't think you have cancer this will be the case but do come back and let us know how you get on after your appointment on Wednesday.
