I was diagnosed with stage 2b cervical cancer just over 2 years ago, with absolutely no symptoms. I’ve just had my latest check up where the consultant says I’ll be discharged in 12 months time, after 2 more check ups.
I’ll have no smear tests, no routine scans, no check ups. I’ve only just got to the stage where I was not as anxious about my check ups, and now I’ve been told I’ll just need to look out for symptoms in case it returns. Even after I told her I didn’t have any prior to diagnosis.
Can anyone tell me how they manage any anxiety post treatment?
Thanks
Suzie
Hi
Although my cancer was not the same type as yours I can understand why you feel anxious at the thought that soon you won't have regular check-ups. I won't be in that position for another 2 years and, in the meantime, it's comforting to know that I have someone to call if I notice anything suspicious.
Everyone has different ways of coping and you just need to find the way that works best for you. You may find it useful to read through this information from Macmillan on coping with anxiety.
Wishing you all the best
