Frustration

Hi Charlie,

waiting on results and a treatment plan feels like torture, it's much better when you have a plan of action and a date to aim for. Do you have a clinical nurse specialist you can ring and ask for an update? You were hopefully allocated one at diagnosis. If not your gp might be able to get an update for you.

whilst you wait the best advice I have is to keep really busy doing things you enjoy and that distract your mind, mindfulness/relaxation  videos on YouTube are good if you are struggling to sleep.

ive called my consultants secretary twice, I’m just waiting for my MRI to be reported to determine my plan of care, should know by the end of this week, I’m seeing my GP this morning for pain management as my back really hurts and ibuprofen and paracetamol don’t work, I’m hoping he may be able to tell me more. The wait is crazy, I know the process as I’m a nurse but it doesn’t make it any easier.  X

I hope you can get some pain relief whilst you wait, they were good at giving me lots of different medication to try whilst I waited for my surgery and my diagnosis, my cancer was in my womb. Are you still having to work or have you stopped now whilst you wait?

my GP was brilliant and stocked me up on codeine, he was worried that my left leg keeps giving way and advised that if I have any numbness to go to A and E for a check of my spine in case the cancer has spread, still awaiting the MRI report so all I know so far is it’s cervical. I’m off work at the moment as I work in Children’s A and E so it’s full on and it’s not right to be there if I can’t give my best.

Hows your treatment plan going and how did you find out you have cancer?

It's good that you don't have the stress of work whilst you wait, and that your doctor has stocked you up. I found out in June 2017 that I had cancer after seeing my gp in February and a load of tests and scans later, I had a full hysterectomy in August 2017 and luckily didn't need any other treatment. Saying that, I've spent an hour and a half in an MRI scanner this morning to check me out as I'd been having symptoms, been waiting on that since February this year, so I completely understand how you feel waiting, I'm set to get my results in late August, hopefully they will be fine.

Before my operation I had a load of symptoms with some really bad pain in my back and belly and I had shooting pains going down both legs, my surgeon told me it wasn't typical to have pain with my diagnosis and after my surgery put the pain down to adenomyosis (which is like endometriosis but inside the womb). I've not had anything like those pains since my hysterectomy, which is amazing.

I hope that your results come through quickly, you will feel so much better when you can get your treatment started
