Hi,
I have just been diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer, I have been informed that I will need radiotherapy, I am not frightened of the treatment I am scared that the outcome will not be good, I saw my consultant and nurse yesterday and it appeared to be all doom and gloom, I am always a really positive person, glass half full but I am really struggling with thoughts that I will not survive
I am also really worried about telling people my diagnosis, my partner is the only one who knows up to now, I would be really grateful of any advice,
Hi Gemma,
I was diagnosed with womb cancer in 2017 and what you are feeling is totally normal, it's hard to wrap your head around everything but you will feel better when you get your treatment underway, it helps knowing that you are taking action.
Telling other people is an individual thing, do whatever feels right for you. I told one person in my family, one of my friends and two friends at work and asked them to tell everyone else for me, I thought it was easier people knowing, I know what my work is like, if I hadn't told people the rumour mill would run. The plus side of everyone knowing was that I had lots of visitors when I was at home recovering from surgery, it was nice seeing people for lunch every other day.
Everyone was great with me but there's nothing quite like talking to other people who know what you are going through. Jos trust is a great place for information and also the eve appeal who have a specialist gynaecologist nurse specialist you can talk to who can help you prepare for appointments. If you have been allocated a Clinical nurse specialist they are a great place for advice and any worries you have too. Finally the Macmillan helpline can help with practical and medical advice, the number is in the website, I'm having a memory blank lol.
Lots of love and please let me know how you are getting on
