Very worried, I have experienced some bleeding after the menopause and got into the doctors pretty quickly. They have referred me on a two week wait..not sure what to expect now. Can anyone offer any information?
Hi Diane01964
I had post menopausal bleeding and, unfortunately, mine was cervical cancer. However, it could have been one of a number of things. So my advice to you is take a deep breath and try really hard not to worry. I know that is easy to say but keep this in mind, I was told it is more likely not to be cancer, I just happened to be unlucky. Good luck, keep in touch on here, it will help you and let us know how you get on.

Hi Diane.
I too had post menopausal bleeding which brought me to the doctor. In discussions with my best friend we knew of 7 other women who also had this. Mine did turn out to be cervical cancer, but not one of the other ladies had the same diagnosis. They had benign polys and fibroids and so it’s not always a cancer diagnosis.
You will be seen quickly and investigated and once this happens you can focus on what comes next. This is a very difficult time, waiting, and it’s very hard not to worry yourself silly with all sorts of thoughts. I would recommend staying away from google at this point!
Please keep in touch with us and let us know how you get on...it’s very helpful having others to talk to and get advice from on all sorts of things. I do hope everything goes well for you.
Hi Minska
Thank you for taking the time out to respond. I do appreciate it.
I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis - how are you doing currently? I hope you are getting through it
You are right, the waiting and the not knowing is very difficult, even though this has moved quite quickly. I only noticed the bleeding on Saturday just gone, and my specialist appointment is on Thursday, so its less than a week. however, I don't know what to expect of the appointment, whether this involves any tests or if am just going to be given leaflets and then having to wait some more? No one seems to be able to provide any information but i suppose this is normal.
Thanks again for your kinds words of encouragement and i will provide updates as i get them
Hi Anvic
Thank you for taking the time to respond to me. It is much appreciated.
I am sorry to hear of the outcome of your bleeding. How are you doing at the moment? I hope you are doing ok
You are right it is hard not to worry and the waiting is the worst part. not knowing what to expect and all sorts of things are going through my head right now.
I will provide an update after Thursday and thank you again for your support.
All the best
Diane
Hi Diane
I am just coming to the end of my treatment which has been tough but not as bad as I thought it would be - isn't that often the case? Then it is the waiting game of scans, check up etc. I'm doing ok and my oncology team are hopeful of a good outcome, so I will be too. I will look for your update and keep my fingers crossed that you have nothing to worry about. Take care.

Hi Diane.
I will be finished treatment soon and have coped well I think with everything. I have 1 chemo session to go (4 completed) and 7 radiotherapy(18 completed). Then I have to go into hospital for brachytherapy which is internal radiation and I will be done on 13 December.
My doctor did the 2 week referral to a gynaecologist and when I met him he asked what I would like him to do at that point. I asked him to do everything possible at that one appointment so I had a hysteroscopy and some punch biopsies of my cervix. None of this was painful, but was as much as he could do at one session. I received my results the following week, and this was quickly followed up with a pelvic MRI scan and a ct scan with contrast of my thorax and abdomen. Then my mdt (multidisciplinary team) discussed my scan results and decided on the plan of treatment. I had a ct scan again to do my tattoos for radiotherapy and treatment began on 1 November (my diagnosis was on 18 September). My team were very clear from the outset that the treatment is to cure and I have put my trust in their judgement!
The treatment is tiring, and there are some side effects which I have found manageable. It’s very doable if this is your diagnosis, but of course it may very well be that you have something else going on which is not cancer at all. All of my symptoms which had led me to the doctor disappeared within 2 weeks of starting treatment and I feel better than I have for a long time!
Feel free to ask any questions as you go along..it really helps to share our worries I think.
Update: I had a womb biopsy taken at my appointment today and they are arranging a scan.
consultant did an internal exam and said the cervix looked OK. Sounds like i have at least two weeks wait now, so trying to stay positive.

Hi Debs
I don't know I can help really. Although mine was post menopause I was only in my 50s. The treatment was tough but 'doable' but at 83 she will possibly face different problems. I would ask her oncolgy team, they will know the difficulties faced by older patients and I'm sure they have plans in place for her. I wish your friend well, she will need support but to be offering treatment her team must believe that she can manage it and the outcome will be positive.
