After one session of chemo and immunotherapy I had a bad reaction and have been told today my treatment is cancelled until I see dermatologist. I don’t know how long that will take maybe another few weeks.
im worried as i am stage 4 and the cancer is spreading my consultant said if i cant continue unfortunately no treatment will be offered.
had anyone had a similar experience? Did a delay make any drastic changes to recovery?
Oh Nightthinking I’m really sorry to read this-what a blow for you. Sorry, I can’t help with your question as I don’t have the right experience but I really hope someone will see this and respond to you.

Night thinking,
I have heard of others who have had a bad reaction to Chemo/ immunotherapy. Their skin problems have been sorted quickly with appropriate meds, creams. I don't think it is acceptable to have to wait weeks to see a Dermatologist if that is going to hold up your treatment.
I think I would be looking for another Consultant or at least a second opinion
( specially taking into account previous comments your Consultant has made if same one you referred to on this forum earlier)
I wish you well, we have to advocate for ourselves.

Hi Serena77
It’s a really good point about getting a second opinion-a long wait to see a dermatologist is unacceptable in this scenario.
This is a Macmillan guide to getting a second opinion
The only caveat I’d make is that it can take time to arrange this, but I think with this particular consultant, I’d be inclined to look for another one. We need to know we have explored all the options we can.

Thank you for your reply I have thought about changing consultant but I wasn’t sure if it would affect my treatment and I wasn’t sure how but I am going to look into it over the weekend.
thank you
Night thinking,
I do understand, not easy. It sounds like Consultant is suspending treatment anyway pending Dermatologist appt. I think being left without knowing any timescale is not acceptable and you right to at least look into altetnatives. It would be good to have a Consultant who is at least on side with you.

Agreed. You want someone fighting your corner, not writing you off. It’s hard to be doing more stressful things when you’re living with advanced cancer and pain and everything else but the consultant doesn’t sound like they are truly doing their best here.

That’s exactly it isn’t it, I know I have support from family and friends and there are some fantastic support groups like this one but you just want the consultant with all her knowledge and experience to tell you that it’s possible to get through this to cure this or live with this just something to hold on to xx
