Two different types of cancer

I was diagnosed with high grade cervical cancer (stage 2b) back in May this year; however, the week before I was due to start my chemo, a lump om my foot was diagnosed as a high grade large cell lymphoma (apparently unconnected to the cervical cancer). So the treatment plan for cervical cancer was shelved and they quickly started me on chemo for the lymphoma. I am due to have my 3rd round of R-chop on Nov 7th.

I have started to have a really dull ache in my lower abdomen and am deeply worried the cervical cancer is spreading and there is nothing that can be done (until I finish my lymphoma treatment in December( 3 weeks of radiotherapy in Dec). Has anyone else experienced similar diagnosis?

  • Hi Linda.

Sorry I don't have any info for you but I also had CC 2B and im informed that CC has a very slow growth rate. Many ladies on here with the same diagnosis complain of pelvic pain( I also had this) but I'm sure you're beside yourself with worry. Hopefully someone will come along soon with more knowledge and hopefully ease your mind a bit.

    Take care

  • Hi

I’ve not ever come across any posts in this group where anyone has has these diagnoses at the same time-this must have been a real blow for you.

Pelvic pain is extremely common at stage 2b-I was the same stage and had a lot of pain, but it doesn’t mean the cancer is spreading. Is the plan that you just undergo radiotherapy treatment once your lymphoma treatment is complete? I appreciate that you’ll already have had several chemo drugs in the R-chop.

You’ve certainly got a lot to deal with, but while we don’t necessarily have any lymphoma knowledge here, we do have knowledge and experience of the cervical cancer treatment, and can support you with that.

Please keep us posted with how you’re getting on and ask any questions you need.

  • Thanks for your replies.

After my 3rd round of chemo(7th Nov) I will start 3 weeks of radiotherapy for my lymphoma. Hopefully that will be then finished.

They will then start one session a week of chemo on my  cc(with 5 days of radiotherapy). Goes on for 5 weeks ....

  • Ah, I get it. So you’ll have the standard stage 2b treatment of low dose Cisplatin weekly and daily radiotherapy for five weeks. Many of us have gone through that, so we have a lot of experience of that in the group and can help with any questions you may have. This all must be really hard to cope with-I can’t imagine having 2 different cancers at the same time.

  • It will be 8 months from the time they diagnosed the cc until they start treat (probably January

  • It does seem like a long time, but I guess they had to prioritise treatment, and since cervical cancer is considered to be slow growing the focus must have needed to be on treating the lymphoma first. How are you feeling at the moment? I know you said you have pelvic pain, but how is the R-chop going?
