Hi
I was referred by my GP for a coloscopy on an urgent 2 week pathway. I had that this morning but the consultant decided she wouldn’t take a cervix biopsy. However, she has booked me in for a general anaesthetic for a hysteroscopy as she said the lining of my womb was thickened - should - should be no more than 4mm but mine was 12mm. So, looks like now attention has moved from cervix to womb. Or have other women had different diagnosis after Hysteroscopy?
I was surprised she wanted me to have a general - but not sure if that means a larger biopsy sample will be taken. She did try to take a sample this morning but said she was unable to get the implement into my womb - it was being blocked by something.
So the Hysteroscopy will be in next 2 weeks as again still on urgent pathway. I know other conditions such as polyps could cause a thickening of womb but she said “not out of the woods yet, can’t say it’s not cancer at this stage”. I have to say I was very relieved to have a female gynaecologist- I know for some people that’s not important, but for various reasons, it was a big relief for me.
Hi Ajay100
Well, it does look like the focus is womb now rather than cervix but many women need to have the hysteroscopy under a general. This can be for several reasons, like a very tilted cervix or cervical stenosis where the cervix is closed and they can’t get access to the womb. It will be easier to have the general so that a decent sample can be obtained for analysis, but it’s a short procedure and you shouldn’t be under for long.
At least having the biopsy analysed will be able to give you a definitive answer, and it may well not be cancer as the lining could be thickened for other reasons.
I had a male gynaecologist and then a male consultant but when my cancer recurred I was transferred to a female surgeon and must admit I much preferred dealing with a woman, so I completely get you on that score.
Keep us posted with how you get on and good luck for a successful procedure!
