  • Hello. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer on 23 May. Prior to that I was diagnosed with an infection after my LLETZ and the antibiotics given for that caused severe infection. My diagnosis was therefore coupled with feeling very unwell and swollen. I’ve had my MRI and been told one of my ovaries looks suspicious and is causing ascites fluid in my abdomen. It’s agony and is being drained tomorrow. I’m just scared I may have ovarian cancer too! I googled ascites and scared myself half to death. Has anyone else had anything similar?
    thank you for reading
  • Hi FreddieWhippet and welcome to the group but sorry you find yourself here.

I am not familiar with your situation but I do know very well how our minds can go into overdrive imagining all sorts when we are anxious and waiting for results. I have also terrified myself many times.

Did you have a specialist nurse allocated to you for the cervical cancer that you can contact to put your mind at ease?  All the lovely ladies on here will tell you not to research stuff in Dr Google. It does so much harm and is often outdated information.

I am sure that someone will come along very soon and offer some advice xxx

  • Hi  and welcome to the group

Gosh, your head must be in a whirl with so much going on, and I’m sorry to read you’ve got so much to deal with all at once,

I haven’t been in the same situation, so cannot add any wise words other than to recommend that you give up on Dr Google! As you’ve discovered, it will frighten you with no benefit.

To be honest I haven’t seen anyone post in the group with a similar issue, but I see that you’ve also joined the ovarian cancer group, where it’s probably more likely you would get a response about ascites. I hope the draining of these today will make you more comfortable.

Has your cervical cancer been staged yet? I notice you’ve had an mri but you haven’t mentioned any other scans which would be usual in establishing the stage but  I’m guessing this might not yet have happened due to the ascites? Perhaps when you’ve got more information you could update your profile so that others can see what stage you’re at in the process and what treatment you are having and it saves lots of questions and repeating yourself.

Stick with us and we can help you as you go through this-we have a lovely group of supportive women here and have a lot of experience in dealing with cervical cancer. You’re very welcome to post and ask questions or vent away-we understand what this is like, and I hope you’ll come back and let us know how you get on today.

    Sarah xx
