Hi gang.
I'd like to share my experience of having 1st brachy yesterday (24/03/22) . Was in hospital since 7.30am, got called into ward bout 8am, Had a chat with consultant who informed me that from Wednesday's MRI there was a significant improvement in my tumour!! #result.. had the usual chat with aneathitist who agreed as well as the spinal I would be given a mild sedative due to high anxiety! Everything was apparently textbook, although I was awake I was very unaware of my surroundings, so rods were placed and stitched into place, catheter inserted, 2 scans to ensure placement then treatment and brought to recovery. The spinal wore off quite quickly and I felt a lot of pain for which I was given analgesia (paracetamol via iv, codiene and morphine via tablet form) so although I had a lot of pain relief I felt every inch of rods being taken out and unstitched, and it only took a few minutes so not too long. Then home about 6.30pm.Iv bled quite heavily since then, found it hard to pee ( better today tho and think it ws fear) am terrified to poo today!! This is my experience only and don't want to frighten anyone as each person is individual with pain thresholds etc. But I'm glad I only have 2 more to go with all other treatments now completed xx
I was the same it's not nice but you done it..did you get them out after treatment...when I had mine got them 830 in the morning treatment at 430 then back on ward till 830 next morning till they come up for you for next round of treatment then they take rod's out...so It's horrible laying there for 24hrs...I really do feel for you when you're next 1 how many rounds you having I had four 15 minutes all 2gether xxx
Yes Nahla got them out after treatment but the pain set in the min the spinal wore off so I was in agony then had the trauma of removal.on top of the pain..1 more and I'm done..never again xx
When ya next 1..so you 3 rounds I feel you're pain it's awful its like torture...Idid you gas & air for removal xxx
Next 1 on thur..yes had gas and air but it wasn't effective pain relief..mayb I'm just s wooss but I can't take it xx
Deffoc not a wooss it's not a nice experience...is that you're 3rd 1...gas & air doesn't really cut it xxx
Yes 3rd and last on Thursday coming. I'm afraid if there was more than 3 I'd take my chances with the tumour..I know that sounds ungrateful but the treatment is way too severe for me xx
Not selfish I was exactly the same when I went In the second time for my 2 rounds..I was gonna walk out till consultant came to see me told me I needed it...I needed four rounds probably coz I'm at stage 3...you will do it then all over xxx
Well Nahla and Sarah
Had a completely different experience today with last brachy! The anesthetist came back at removal time and gave me a shirt lasting sedative.. Don't even remember any pain and iv only got mild discomfort now! On my way home for a hard earned rest, just wish my pain relief was standard from day 1 but at least I end on a positive note today... thanks everyone for all support and il hang around the forum to keep up with you all and see how everyone is keeping xxxxx
Oh, that’s brilliant news Angela after all you went through! Hope you do stick around to help others, which I’m sure you will be able to. At least that’s you done now!
Sarah xx
