My daughter is 47 and her breast cancer was diagnosed and treated in 2014 after 6 years she had developed bone secondaries, no other involvement.
She has been coping well for a further 6 years on demosamab, letrozole, palbociclib and zoladex. Her scans have been good every 3 month's they were then moved to 4 monthly. Her recent scan showed a deposit in the hilum. She had a blood test to determine the type of mutation which came back inconclusive so has now ,and is ,awaiting the results of a pet scan. Hopefully if the deposit does light up they will then know which targeted treatment she needs? If it does not light up then there is talk of a biopsy.
I wanted to know if any one has gone through the same and if so what was the outcome?
Thank you
I am sorry to hear your daughter’s secondary breast cancer may have progressed. I have secondary breast cancer but of s different type (TNBC) with different treatment protocols. I therefore can’t shed any light on what treatments may be offered to your daughter.
I have had a couple of PET/CTs during my journey. You are injected with a radioactive glucose mix and then left to sit for an hour so it circulates around your body before you enter the scanner. Cancer cells take up the glucose faster than normal cells so the areas with active cancer ‘light up’ due to the radioactive isotopes. The scan will tell them where, if anywhere, the cancer is active. The extent might inform treatment decisions and they will have accurate information on where to try to biopsy if they think that is appropriate.
I hope it turns out that nothing much has changed.
