Afternoon all.
This weekend went to get my covid and flue jabs to be told I wasn't in a group to get the covid vaccine.
I did question this and said this effects my immune system hence the bloods taken every 4/5 weeks to be able to receive my treatment.
Apparently I don't fall into any of the groups because its not chemio?
Has anyone else had this issue?
I have been down to the doctors today to question this as I do fail my blood test regularly do to low immune levels.
Sooo confused by this change.
Hi Sambob
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
If you don't mind me asking, what did your GP say about whether you were eligible or not?
I am not on this treatment as I have a different cancer - metastatic TNBC. In fact in remission and not currently on any treatment. My GP practice is part of a big group and runs vaccination clinics at one of its surgeries. I had an appointment on Monday night. I knew I had only been authorised for the flu vaccine. I questioned my eligibility for the Covid vaccine just by saying I only needed my next scan to show progression and I would likely be straight on treatment that would make me immunocompromised. Very true as my next line of treatment is Trodelvy which is an immunotherapy / chemo conjugate. He happily authorised the Covid vaccine. The note that went onto my GP record just simply states authorised by clinical judgement.
Hopefully your GP authorised you.
Hi, I would maybe contact PALS. I have actually had the flu jab and then covid annually since my primary diagnosis 7 years ago (not sure if this was right but definitely since my secondary diagnosis). I’m stable too but on Abemacibilib (similar type of drug I assume) which can lower our immune systems at any time! We might not even know! I got Covid a few weeks ago and felt awful but had peace of mind that it shouldn’t put me in hospital! They should help you resolve this. Good luck xx
Got a reply from the doctors surgery saying they had asked the practice nurse who said I was not eligible? Spoken with Chemo sister who is doing me a letter to take to the chemist when I go. Once I have the jab I am taking the letter to the GP and asking them to take a copy and make sure this goes on my documents as needs the covid jab.
Totally fed up with this lottery system as to whom gets a £4 vaccination.
I hope you get it resolved. It’s ridiculous! I know , I’ve asked about claiming terminal illness on life insurance but been told some consultants may authorise it and others won’t and have seen examples on this forum of this. I need to put a claim in by Xmas so I’m going to try! Good luck x
Well had my covid jab and not via gp. Got a letter from the chemio unit, made an appointment with the chemist and got the injection there. The chemist couldn't believe I had been refused and they have updated my medical docs. Dropped the letter into the gp..well a copy.
Fingers crossed in the spring I won't have the same problem again.
Glad to hear this! I just go my local chemist as well. You shouldn’t have any problems now . Xx
