No-one really wants to know .

Guess I'm just feeling sorry for myself,  I have stage 4 breast cancer with mets in my lungs but I've refused treatment for my own reasons .

I have however found out that no-one really cares what you're going through if your not undergoing treatment for cancer which I personally think is wrong , just because I'm not on cancer treatment doesn't mean my cancer has gone away, because it hasn't its still there, still growing and doing whatever the hell it pleases.

The hospice nursers are a different matter.

I have a new oncologist and met her once, it didn't go well and she said I needed a CT scan because I was coughing but didn't want to get me a CT because I'm not on treatment so there wasn't any point having a CT , yet a few days later I received an appointment for a CT, I did at first want to return down the CT because like she said what's the point if I'm not on treatment but then I decided that despite not being on treatment I still deserve to know what's going on, so I went and should receive the results this month , although I know the oncologist is going to insist I have treatment.

It annoys me because she should be respecting my choices and supporting me which she isn't.

Anyway like I said this is just a feeling sorry for myself because I shouldn't have to be undergoing treatment to ger the respect that everyone on treatment gets .

  • Hi, thank you for your reply, help and support.

Given your first tumour was 3mm was this size showing up in X-ray you referred to you had?

Odd question but did they biopsy your lung tumour and do any kind of sampling to see its status?   I ask that because I had read that whilst metastatic breast cancer spreads to several locations around 70% spread to bone with a lot less to lung, however I have seen that triple negative breast cancer is the more likely to spread to lungs.   I have also read that breast cancer can change status during its progression.

How many tumours in the lungs do you now have?

    sorry for all the questions.

  • Hi,

Don't worry about it,  if I can answer any questions then I will Slight smile.

The tumour was first diagnosed by the CT scan but it could be seen on the Xray and it's size could also be seen .

They could not do a biopsy on the tumour due to its location so they relied on progression basically,  cancer is the only thing that grows and spreads , almost everyone can have nodules in their lungs which are basically masses and almost all are benign, this is why I had 3 monthly CT scans, they were keeping an eye on the original mass to see what it did and the fact that it grew and more developed kinda proved to them that it was cancer , I have 7 in total , 3 on the right lung and 4 on the left,  the reason they can't do a biopsy is because the main tumour is inside my lung, it sits right in the middle of the maim bronchi which is stopping the air getting to the secondary bronchi etc .

My oncologist said breast cancer likes to spread to places like the lungs and bones.

Yes cancer can change status,  mine originally 2 then after the operation to remove the tumour they upgraded it to 3

  • Hi, thanks for your reply. Going back to an earlier comment you made you said you had 13 lymph nodes involved and went on to say you had 1 micro metastases!   I have heard of that term but always assumed that any lymph node involvement  was a micro metastases, is there a difference ?
between ‘involved’ and ‘micro metastases ‘ in the lymph nodes?

  • Hi, thanks for your reply.

I had to Google that one because I honestly don't know,  I was just writing what was written down on my medical notes .

Google didn't bring much joy and can only gether it means small and can't be seen on scans etc they was only picked up on a biopsy.

  • Hi, so spoke with Gp again yesterday, and now have further x-Ray scheduled for a week today. GP did say that if we still had concerns a CT would be next.   I feel now the wheels are in motion to get a result I am dreading for my wife but have little choice.

  • Hi,

Well that is good news yes? It means they are on the ball and are keeping an eye on things and at least thw GP is prepared to entertain the idea of a CT scan, I will keep my fingers crossed for you .

    Please keep me updated

  • Thanks, I am very frightened for her, to add to the pain whilst the timing is never great, it’s her 65th birthday tomorrow, my birthday next Tuesday and our 35th wedding anniversary next Wednesday.

  • Oh no, what horrid timing :(

It never rains but pours .

We can only hope that it turns out to be nothing .

    Good luck.

  • Hi, well the X-ray I told you was scheduled has come back as ‘chest is clear’. Which is an improvement on the previous X-ray which showed some minor infection in the lower left lung.

obviously the GP had a view that if we were still concerned a Ct would be next, clearly with an improving X-ray she is unlikely to sanction a Ct scan now. However the cough continues, not sure now what to do.

  • Hi and morning,

Thank you for the update Slight smile.

That is good news that the x-ray is showing clear now, bur not good news that she still has the cough.

You said the doctor would send her for a CT if she was still concerned?

I'd be personally pushing for that to happen, get your wife to make an appointment, go along with her and tell them you are both very concerned still.

I realise the doctor might say, the x-ray is clear and an infection can take many weeks to clear completely but if you're concerned you need to be telling them.
