Thinning hair

My daughter has secondary bone cancer and at the moment is doing really well. With her treatment she definitely has thinner hair but at least does not have any bald patches. I wondered if anyone had had any luck with any hair products to improve this? I am aware there is perhaps not a lot that can make this better but thought it was worth asking. Needless to say she is doing everything to try and preserve the condition of her hair as it is at the moment. I would be grateful for any suggestions.

  • Hi

Great to hear that your daughter is doing really well  I'm afraid I can't help with any products and you may find posting on the general breast cancer forum will get a response or two as this forum is much quieter. I've also noticed quite a bit of hair loss daily. I'm on Gem carbo chemo and the oncologist says I shouldn't lose my hair but it looks like it will definitely thin out!

Good luck and vest wishes to you both.

  • Sorry but I have the same ...  I was warned this may happen.. I think you can take some additional vitamins might be worth going into Holland and barett or googling and see what comes up.. I am.just resigned to it happening now and keeping my fingers crossed it stops and I am left as I am now..

  • There is a charity called Cancer Hair Care, helping people with hair thinning and hair loss. They might be able to advise her on good hair products. www.cancerhaircare.co.uk.

  • many thanks for replying

  • This is very useful, many thanks

  • Hi Helper always,

Its great you’re daughter is doing well & that you’re helping her get through this, wish my mom was the same. My hair feels to have thinned somewhat being on Capecitabine.

I’ve not used any specific products but Plantur 35 or Alpecin are meant to be good for loss/ thinning hair loss, just not sure if the chemicals would be good if on chemo or other drugs.
Maybe speak to her breast care nurse if she has one.

Sorry I can’t help more. Stay strong & remember the cancer community is always here for helen& support.

    Take care.
