Having occasional problems swallowing

I have incurable triple negative  breast cancer with mets in shoulder girdle affecting the chest wall soft tissue and muscles. Bone mets in ribs, sternum, clavicle, sternum and now active on the opposite side to the original cancer for which I had a mastectomy 11 years ago.

Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed occasional pain when swallowing, even just water can cause pain in the upper mid chest. I was out with friends last week and swallowing a piece of chicken my throat went into spasm which wouldn't allow me to either swallow or bring the chicken back up, it was really scary. Since before my diagnosis in November last year I have also had problems with my voice going hoarse. The oncologist said that the voicebox is a lazy organ than needs support from surrounding muscles, which in my case are compromised. Has anyone else experienced this problem with swallowing?

My last treatment of chemo was in January when it stopped as it was not working. I decided to stop chemo but have had radiotherapy to the shoulder area which has helped with pain reduction.

I would appreciate hearing of anyone else's similar experiences.

  • Hi sounds like you are going through quite a lot at the moment.  Sorry you haven't had a response to your post i imagine there isn't anyone on here at the moment who is going through similar.

Buy replying to you it will bump your post back up to the top of the list so that if there is no someone who has been through similar they might see it and reply to you.

Hopefully there is something more your medical team can do to help you.

Wishing you all the best on this awful journey.  Sending hugs x
