Has anybody got some advice for the side affects of this medication?
My mum couldn't finish her first month as it made her feel so poorly. In bed, nausious, stopped eating, stomach cramps but was only having diarrhoea once every 2/3 days. Quality of life went from a 7/0 to 1/10
As soon as she came off it she rapidly got back to her old self again.
Dr asked her to try it one more time. She is now on week 2 and rapidly going down hill again, not eating (even though I offer her everything). She says she just feel dreadful (she can't really explain how). She is having diarrhoea once a day, which apparently is quite good for these meds?
She has also come out in a rash on her torso.
How has Abemaciclib (Verzenios) affected others please? Mum has mets to her pelvis.
Thank you
Hi Wren welcome to the forum and sorry to hear how unwell your mum has been that doesn't sound pleasant at all for either of you.
Can you get in touch with the Hospital chemo unit and ask for their advice re this drug as they should be able to give you more detail and maybe adjust the dosage etc, not sure, but worth asking them. The other thing that you could do is to give the Macmillan Line a call and maybe have a chat with one of the nurses on the helpline to see if they could offer any advice. 08088080000.
Hi - there are definitely others in this group who have used this drug and I believe that they have had to resort to a special diet to cope with it. If you do a search on the drug name, the discussions should come up so that you can read through.
Hope everything improves soon.
Hi Wren. I have been on Abemaciclib for over a year now and most of the time feel relatively okay - although I do still suffer from diarrhoea. When your Mum restarted did they lower the dose as I started on 150 morning and night but had this lowered to 100 because of the side effects. Unfortunately I had a chest infection at the same time so a bit unsure what was what but did start to feel better immediately the dose was reduced. Also is your Mum taking anything for the nausea as I found these also made me feel odd so changed type.
Hope it improves and do discuss it
