Hi,

I am due to start Ribociclib with Fulvestrant monthly injections this week. I have read the information booklet on Ribociclib and Macmillan leaflet. Also the Fulvestrant Macmillan leaflet. Both of which mention the possibility of blood clots!

I was on Capecitabine oral chemotherapy  with daily injections of the blood thinner Tinzaparin as had blood clots in the lungs ( breathless ness), and a minor blood clot on my leg.

My Oncologist has stopped the blood thinner injections ( Oct 25th), at my scan results meeting. I subsequently read the leaflets,  which I requested from the chemo unit on the same day.

Today,  I have a pre chemo bloods test and tomorrow I have an “ information “ session with a chemo nurse followed by the initial injections in each buttock and will provided with the Ribociclib tablets.

I am concerned that my Oncologist has stopped the blood thinners and will enquire why at tomorrow’s information session.

What are other’s experience with this chemo mix please? Thanks.

    Hi

I have recently been diagnosed with secondary breast cancer to bones and node in chest.  I started this treatment 3 weeks ago and am currently on my one week off. I haven't had any problems on the treatment and will see oncologist next Wednesday to check bloods and ecg to see if it's ok to continue. Hope the injections weren't  too painful and good luck with treatment.

    Hi V

Thank you for replying to my post ! I appreciate itBlush

Today felt really tired as not been sleeping well due to worrying about the change of chemo.

So... got up late, went to chemo unit and had ECG and bloods done. Will return tomorrow for the info session, injections and Ribociclib tablets.

Glad to hear that you are doing well on it so far.

I have a node near heart in chest also which started growing again when Capecitabine stopped working.  My other Mets are in sternum and spine ( they are stable presently).

    Hi JMP

I can understand the sleepless nights. I didnt have time to worry about the treatment I saw oncologist for my results and started the treatment same day. My mets are in spine, scapula and node in chest. Here's hoping treatment suits us.

I am also on blood thinner clexane injections one a day because I have a problem with blood clotting haemotologist wants to change injections to rivoroxabane tablets but is waiting to hear from oncologist.

    Hi V

How long have you been on blood thinners for? I was on Tinzaparin for just under a year.

I was on a blood thinner tablet very briefly, can’t remember name, but had a whole range of side effects including nausea itchy skin, sore eyes etc so went back to daily injections.

The only SE on injections was bruising.

I had ECG and blood test late yesterday afternoon. Later on today I will have the info session, bottom injections and be issued with Ribociclib tablets.

    Hi JMP

I have only been on them 2weeks lots of bruises, haemotologist waiting for reply from oncolgist before starting tablet. I was diagnosed with a blood disorder in May, Essential Thrombocythaemia and I was due to start a chemo for that, then getting the mets had to have chemo for that instead. Consequently given blood thinners to help prevent clots. It's all been happening at the moment. Maybe they will put you back on blood thinners due to both the Ribo and injections can cause clotting. I'm sure they will sort it out.

    Hello, JMP

How are you doing? Have you started your treatment of Ribociclib and Fulvestrant? I've been told that this will be my new treatment.

    Hello sleepymom,

How are you doing? How is your health with the Ribociclib and Fulvestrant treatment? My oncologist has said this will be my new treatment, and so really looking feedback from people with lived experience. I'm just tired of ready booklets

Hi Roseycheeks I have just completed my second course of treatment. The only problem I have had is my neutraphils dropping quite low, just held enough to allow me to have 2nd treatment. Due back to see consultant 11th December to see if I can get next treatment. Other than this I haven't had any problems. Wishing you luck with treatment, hope it suits you.                                                                                                                     V

    Thank you Sleepymom.

I'm 36 and currently on zoladex to put me in a state of menopause and once my menstrual bleeding stops, I'll be put on the treatment. I was recently diagnosed with advanced breast cancer. I'm scared, and would prefer a natural alternative, because of the side effects I've read.

Hi RoseyCheeks                                               I can understand you are scared I think we are all the same in that respect. The leaflet information you get does list a lot of side effects but everyone is different and not everyone has all side effects and indeed some people it doesnt cause too many issues.                                                   I don't know anything about natural remedies so cant advise on that. I am trusting my oncologist to do his best for me and hope you can get some reassurance from yours.                                I think there is a group on here for under 50s who have been diagnosed that you might like to chat with also, everyone is very kind and might give you more reassurance. Don't hesitate to ask any more questions if I can help.                                                    Kind Regards                                                          V
