Hi All,
My wife has now had PET/CT and MRI reports back. Both clearly state metastatic disease in C2,3&4 and L4&5, with a compression fracture of L5.
Strangely, her CA15-3 blood marker is normal (20). Is this common? During her primary cancer treatment it was elevated, then normal after chemo and surgery.
We're waiting on the result of a lumbar biopsy to confirm histology etc.
Also, has anyone found what's best to manage the pain? She's currently having 5 sessions of radio to try and help, but for now Tramadol is barely keeping the pain away. She's been tried on Oxycodone, but had a lot of unpleasant side effects.
Cheers,
BC
Hi Winship
I have managed to get physio through my local hospice. Do you have one nearby? I have also took advantage of the massages they do as my back has been really tight all over because of the fractures. Again I am finding this is helping. I think my damage was done in January and I commenced treatment in March. I'm standing alot better but still not as straight as I'd like.
As well as physio I've been doing basic yoga stretches to stretch my back and spine and it's definitely helping.
I'm like you I cannot reach anything in the kitchen now!!
I have asked my oncologist to write to orthopaedics and get some advice Re my spine, he said he would. I would definitely push for this as there are procedures they can do to strengthen the spine (cement procedure mentioned above). The hospice also offered to follow this up but I declined as my oncologist said he would do it. They have been so helpful.
What treatment are you on if you don't mind me asking?
Take care
Daisy

Thanks for that info- my original breast cancer 13 years ago was her2 neg but borderline the secondary now is her2positive - so I’ve had 6 rounds of docatexel chemo and now on phesgo injection every 3 weeks and demenusab bone strengthener injection every 6 weeks
They have said this will continue as long as working ! So fingers crossed! Next ct scan due sometime in august
I'm pleased to say that after 5 sessions of radiotherapy (and quite a bit of vomiting) my wife's pain is much better. Apparently the results from the bone biopsy won't be back until the middle of next week, but for now we're in a better place.
Looking forward to getting a treatment plan in place, and hoping her next scan can give us some much needed good news.
Hi Andy
I'm really pleased to hear things are starting to improve. It will be alot better once treatment plan is in place.
I've had an appointment through for an orthopaedic appt on the 2nd Aug. I've asked about procedures to strengthen the spine, il let you know what they say.
Take care, speak soon.
Daisy
Hi Daisy
that’s good news about your appointment- I’d be really interested to hear what they say please . I’ve got a telephone appointment on Monday with physiotherapist- not sure that’s going to be very helpful - but at least a step in right direction.
Take care all
Good luck with your scan tomorrow Daisy. I'm still waiting for results from my 3rd , all good up to now. Scanxiety is the worst!
Jools xx
Hi everyone
Good news from scan, improvements in the liver, lymph nodes still clear and also improvement in disease in bones. Very happy.
I also had an orthopaedic appt earlier in the week. They advised that as I have no pain and am walking well they are reluctant to do any surgery including cement procedure in the vertebrae. They said if it was affecting my quality of life and walking then they would do it.
They took additional x rays of legs and assured me that both femurs are strong and no evidence of disease in left femur now like there was back in March.
They seem to think I should now be coming off the zomorph and Baclofen and just be using Paracetamol. I've just started reducing the dose.
I have a slight curve on spine from the fractures but overall they said my back is pretty good. I'm going back in 3 months for x rays so they can keep a check on it.
Well worth getting a referral to orthopaedics if you can, they were so helpful and gave me lots of info that my oncologist can't. I'm now under their care as well so any new bone pains or questions I can ring direct and get it checked.
