Hi, It's the first group I've joined and I have so many questions. I have been living with breast cancer since October 2018 and through lockdown I was struggling to have my aggressive cancer treated or even acknowledged by a doctor when it came back with fury in September 2020. What was originally a treatable breast cancer in 2018 has now moved to my sternum and I have triple negative breast cancer now spread to my lymph. Unfortunately during lockdown not all lives mattered when it came to cancer. Last month I had a single mastectomy and a full ancillary clearance. I am trying to find out more about secondary breast cancer to the sternum and now small cancer cells where found in my lymph. Can anyone help me navigate through the macmillan site for more education about treating sternum cancer? These are tough times for us all and it's so frightening looking on the internet for education about sternum cancer. I am so worried about where to go from here.
Hi Chicksinthecity welcome to the forum and I am so sorry that you have not had a reply as yet. Im wondering if this may be within the Bone Cancer part of the site when it is affecting the Sternum? However, I am wondering if the best thing to do is to give the Macmillan Line a call and have a chat with them and see what they think about what part of the site would be better for you to ensure that you get the right support and information. 08088080000.
Please don't rely on Google for information as it can be unreliable and you will end up scaring yourself more.
It sounds like Chemo may be on the cards but I'm not sure but do give the helpline a call as they may have more information that could be useful for you and I am sorry that I haven't been of more help at this time.xxxx
hi Chick
i too was diagnosed with secondary in the sternum, as it was only in the sternum I underwent a full sternectomy at the Harefield hospital under Professor Anikin. Not sure if this would be an option for you but may be worth looking into with your oncologist. It’s a big op but they removed all my cancer. Sending you much love x
Hi 188, Thank you for responding back to me. Tests came back that the dark spots on my sternum where unidentified and I really appreciate you getting back to me rather than telling me I'm on on the wrong forum When I was told that the cancer went to my sternum I was beside myself and thought the worst. You my dear are a godsend to have undergone such an operation. My current situation is that the cancer mastersized into my chest muscle and after having my mastectomy end of January 2021 the cancer came back on the same skin tissue that my breast was removed. My medical team at UCLH are completely baffled how this could happen. I have secondary breast cancer and I've been currently looking into integrated medicine to help boost my immunity through all the hard hitting stuff I've had over 3 years. I'm currently now on Capectabine chemotherapy tablets possibly for the rest of my life. I'm sorry that's BS.... I'm currently undergoing treatment for Mistletoe Therapy to help boost my immunity and about to undergo Vitamin C IV infusions to boost up immunity and for skin rejuvenation that chemo has sucked out. My collagen is so depleted but hey I'm still living. I'm currently undergoing chemo treatment from my oncologist but now paying a truck load to help with my health. It's such a shame that our NHS won't support this. What they do is refer you to an integrated medical hospital with the opportunity to speak to a doctor for 30 minutes once every 6 months and that's it. So I went privately... Let's see how I get on. I'm still alive and have a strong will to live but I do wonder why doctors wont educate us on how to keep healthy through treatment. I'm not bucking the system but I do feel something is missing with the health and wellbeing for cancer patients. I hope you continue to thrive and it was so lovely to read your good news. Big love x
Hi, I was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in the sternum right at the start of lockdown, and like you, I found it very dificult to get any information about it, as I didn't seem to fit into any of the other groups.
If you find a good source of information, please let me know! I will do the same.
All the best
You may b interested to see what Professor Anikin is doing at The Harefield with removing secondary breast cancer only in the sternum through a sternectomy. It is a big operation, but you can be referred on the NHS by your oncologist xx
That is amazing. Thank you for the information, but I have liver mets as well, so I would imagine it wouldn't work for me. It's good to know there are other new options out there though.
All the best with your treatment.
