Hi has anyone been told they can't have cold cap therapy with nab paclitaxel? I have had to change from paclitaxel due to allergic reaction & was told it may not work with nab paclitaxel. I said but its the same drug & nurse said well it hasn't been tested with nab paclitaxel. I said I want to continue anyway. I am seeing oncologist next week before my treatment starts & wondering if I inisist that I want to try it anyway!

Thanks

  • Hi Liser

I cold capped in 2022 for my chemotherapy for endometrial cancer.

    I had paclitaxel and carboplatin.

I would suggest having a look on the Paxman website. There is information on the different regimes.

Scalp cooling can not be used in certain cancers (blood cancers for example) and can vary in effectiveness but in my own experience if you have already used it then it is worth persisting. I would suggest talking to your consultant next week and asking if it is safe for you to continue with the new regime. I remember my consultant mentioning that some shedding is normal but that it can help protect hair follicles and lead to stronger regrowth. That was certainly my experience.

  • Hi Jane 2155

Thank you for your very helpful reply. I have been allowed to continue with the cold cap with my new chemo regime so that is a relief. So far seems to be working not too much shedding but only had one cycle so far. Hoping it will keep working.

Glad it worked well for you.
