Had 4 positive biopsies both breasts and 1 lymph node. Surgeon said treatable...booked surgery for June. But receptors not back. But wouldn't need MRI etc

Just had call from nurse. Her 2 very positive.  Need chemo. Need to wait for oncology call. Need MRI, CT scan and echo.

Been such a long wait already.   She said I was treatable and now that's it no contact with her just wait for oncology.

Feel so so lost

  • I’m so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I know it can be very overwhelming. I was in a similar position 6 weeks ago - diagnosed with a her2, grade 3 tumour. Originally I was told that I’d have surgery then chemo, but after the MRI, the sizing was different than originally thought, so that changed to chemo then surgery. I know it feels like an age waiting for tests and scans. But, as I understand it, breast cancer treatments are very standardised, so once you know your enemy, I’m sure your team will be able to give you a clear idea of the treatment. I’ve just started chemo last week and (while it’s not pleasant) I’m pleased to be doing something. I hope you find some answers soon and get on with treatment. In the meantime, my best advice is to be very kind to yourself. Take care Relaxed️

  • Thanks for your reply. I am worried about it spreading outside my breasts.  Will have hold it together till tests n results.

  • Hi, I was in a similar position to you 4 years ago. I was called back after mammogram and had to have biopsies. The results were taking ages to come back so as I mostly had dcis we went straight to mastectomy.

The results came back as Her2 positive and in 1 lymph node. I went from no other treatment to having bone scan and ct scan - I was terrified it had spread but they reassured me that this is fairly routine if her2 with lymph node positive. My scans were clear so then TCHP chemo, radiotherapy and finished off with the 12 months phesgo.

It’s a long old slog but you get through it and out the other side. Life is more or less back to normal for me now. I felt the waiting for tests, results and the wait to start treatment was the worst bit. There are some good blogs on here with loads of info re getting through chemo. A good one by Irish Girl.

  • Hi, as many will say the waiting is the worst but try not to worry too much, as each test is done the proposed treatment may change.

I had a similar experience, was told probably an operation followed by radiotherapy, then because of the type had to have an MRI, the waiting for the results was awful. I didn’t get the results of my Her2 until the day of surgery, when they told me it was positive it freaked me out as meant I had to have chemo.

i have just completed 11 chemo sessions out of 12 and while it’s not been easy it hadn’t been as bad as feared.

Be kind to yourself during this time and remember Her2 positive cancer is very treatable with good outcomes

    best wishes
