I had a Zoledronic Acid infusion four weeks ago, and the side effects were quite strong for me; some persist. My joints, especially my knees, feel stiff, and I occasionally experience aches and pains. Additionally, I have a bloated stomach, a metallic taste in my mouth, and I've lost some of my appetite—though not completely, I've lost quite a bit. How to overcome these symptoms? The plan is to have the infusion every six months. Is the experience during the second infusion usually less intense, or can it be even worse? Cheers
Hi, for me the side effects on the first one were intense, but more for cold and flu symptoms, but it wiped me out totally for a day. I prepared myself for this for round 2 and I was absolutely fine. I have to admit it all seems strange. Hope your symptoms are easing, but if not, probably worth talking to your oncologist of BCN. Best wishes
Hi. I had awful side effects after the first one, flu like symptoms and exhausted. I was worried about having the second one but although I had some fatigue and felt shivery this time, it wasn't as bad as the first time. Hopefully it'll get better each time.
Hope your next one is better x
Hi, I’ve got two more of these infusions to have, in July and then January. I had my first one in with my second dose of EC chemotherapy and had an awful few days anyway. I’ve had three infusions on their own and each one has made me feel fluish and achey for a couple of days. I’m not one of these people who has had symptoms for the first one, then ok for the rest, however it has been the same each time with the after effects lifting completely. I just make sure I can have a quiet day or so after each one. xx
My oncologist warned me that I would have a day of flu-like symptoms for the first infusion, but the following ones would be fine. Which is exactly my experience (I'm now 4 infusions in, 2 to go). I'm not aware of any after-effects at all now. Obviously the bone-hardening effects are building up (which might be a potential problem if I need bone surgery in the future, for the next few years), but they're not perceptible day-to-day. If I needed any dental/jaw surgery the oncologist has said he could refer me to a specialist dentist (however, there's no sign of the very rare side effect of jaw necrosis).
Hi all
It’s interesting to read your comments as I’m due to have my second zoledronic infusion next month & I’m not looking forward to it. The first knocked me sideways, was like having a chemo infusion again although it only lasted about 36 hours. I’m hoping now that my side effects won’t be so bad next time
