Hello
I’m about to have my second chemo on Wednesday and I’m a little bit worried because the oncologist has said that I’ll be starting Zoladex injection/implant too.
is this normal to have it alongside the chemo? I assumed I’d be starting it after the chemo was finished. Worried about the extra side effects alongside the chemo ones.
has anyone any experience with this please?
thank you x
Hi
I had my zoladex along side my chemo and for me I couldn’t particularly say the side effects were unmanageable. I had 3 lots of EC without the zoladex and had first implant on my 2nd dose of weekly pacitaxol- I had hot flushes frequently for first 2 months but personally I felt that easier to manage than a period on my EC. ( felt more drained then).
im not sure if that’s helpful.
Hi Lauzloo , I’ve only had 1 Zoladex injection so far so don’t have lots of experience. I had 1 round of EC before then Zoladex with the second EC. I honestly haven’t noticed any side effects yet other than some bloating which wasn’t really uncomfortable.
I’m having it alongside my chemo to help preserve my fertility. Its worth asking Chemo Nurses, breast care nurses or Doctor if you’re not sure why you’re having it alongside chemo
Hope it all goes okay for you and you’re tolerating chemo! Sending love x x
Hi Lauzloo,
I started with the injections at the same time that my first infusion of EC. I am now due to my third injection while still ongoing the rest of my treatment with paxi.
On the first dose I didn't feel much than some hot flushes during the day but It was manageable. Now is bothering me more at night, as it wakes me up a few times so you never feel proper rested. A hand fan will be your best friend during this process.
You also may feel certain dryness, lost of appetite and sexual desire but luckily It’s not affecting my bones or joints. Mild exercise as yoga or Pilates seem to help.
It may be the case that some of those symptoms also link to my chemo, but as I’m in both treatments is difficult to set a line in between, however it’s manageable. Just wear comfortable clothing and easy to take off as you will feel your body temperature changes suddenly.
I hope it helped!
