Hi,

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to help with a seroma. It's not big enough to have drained but still a nuisance and a bit painful. Im doing my exercises but Just wondered if there was anything I could be doing to help.

Thanks x

  • Hi I'm having the same problem it feels like I have a sandbag under my armpit x

  • Hi

I had surgery in December and ended up having a seroma drained 5 times over a period of about 6 weeks.  Eventually my breast started to feel hard and the nurse was unable to drain anymore fluid. She told me that the hardness was the fluid turning to jelly as it was gradually absorbed by my body and advised me to massage my breast to encourage the fluid to disperse, it did seem to hasten the recovery bit that may have just been coincidence so I'm not sure if this might help you but it's worth a try. The nurse demonstrated the massage as small circular movements with finger tips and gentle pressure.

    Hope you improve soon

  • Hi

Advice I was given is compression helps swelling so to wear a bra that is quite snugly fitting but not to the point of being restrictive/uncomfortable. I wore a Nike high support sports bra designed to hold everything in place for running so firm fitting but still very comfortable. Pricey, but I wouldn’t bother with the supermarket or cheaper ones as they often say they are high support but aren’t really. Hope it settles for you soon. x

  • Hi ,

Sorry to hear that. It's a very weird strange sensation isn't it? When i had my first mastectomy 4 years ago I didn't get this but then I did have a drain. This time I didn't have a drain.

    Good luck x

  • I'm doing ok, thank you. I'm about 85% healed from the operation and start chemo on Friday 28th Feb. The first battle is over but the war continues, I shall do my best to win though. Smile good luck with your recovery

  • Hi. I'm experiencing the same hardness on my breast after a seroma. Did the massage help?
