Hi, I have a single mastectomy scheduled for Monday. I've been looking at what might help recovery and there's a lot out there. If you've had a mastectomy, what did you find useful/essential? Is it worth buying a wedge pillow/mastectomy pillow/recovery bra, for example? Thanks! Absolutely terrified.

  • Thanks so much for this, really useful to know what you took with you to the hospital.

  • If you are staying in over night don't expect to get much sleep, everyone has obs every hour, blood pressure and temperature,  drugs as needed, try and drunk plenty, breathing tube leaves your throat sore and dry.  If you can eat,  drink, get up and use the bathroom you have a better chance of being discharged quickly so you can get some proper rest.  I was discharged around 3pm the day after and couldn't wait to get home.  If you have reconstruction it will take longer.  Hugs x

  • Thanks for this. I'd rather not stay in but I know I may have to.

  • Just remembered something else, a long handled wash scrunchie for the shower.I used this to wash my legs and lower body as couldn't bend over . I got one from poundland .Good luck for Monday x
