Hello
I have just been diagnosed and am due to have a lumpectomy followed by radiotherapy and then a hormone blocker. Hopefully it hasn't spread to lymph nodes bit time will tell. Waiting game again.
Just wondering if you can drive yourself to radiotherapy or are you too tired?
I'm only just beginning to get my head around all of this.
Thank you
Hiya
Thanks for your post. I thought I'd drop you a quick reply.
I finished 5 days of radiotherapy last week. I don't drive but took public transport daily.
I did feel some fatigue from day one but didn't feel my senses were impeded. The fatigue has been more severe since the treatment ended.
I'm sure those who drive will share their experience. You may have to assess how you feel on a daily basis, once you begin.
Wishing you all the best with your treatment and beyond.
Hugs, Shaka
Hiya, sorry you found yourself here. I had 3 weeks of RT and drive myself there and back with no issues at all. At the time I had a 4 year old and an unhelpful husband and whilst it was tiring I was fine to do this. That said I only live 25 minutes from the hospital (each way) so that was great. A friend in mine recently had RT and had an hour there and back, she drove herself initially and arranged for friends to take her in the later weeks. She did say she felt she would’ve been fine to drive herself but it was nice to have the company. Hope that helps x
Hi Mindle,
It was a different cancer, but when my dad had radiotherapy he drove himself for the first week but knew he wouldn't be able to continue with doing that half way through week 2. My mum or friends did the driving after that.
Daughter had 15 sessions of radiotherapy (breast cancer) last year. As she is being treated at a central London hospital, she travelled by train. She said much the same as dad - would've been fine to drive the first week, but tiredness would've made it too much of a strain (and potentially dangerous) as treatment went on.
Very best wishes for your successful treatment. xx
Hi, I drove every day, for 15 sessions, and I didn't struggle at all with fatigue, was straight back to work after each one. Best wishes
