Hi all, due to start EC treatment on Thursday. I know everyone’s experiences are different but could you tell me how long you were poorly/ had side effects for after? Just trying to figure out what may be to come. Thanks
Hi Kellymb
Fortunately, I got off fairly lightly when having EC with the main side effects being hair loss and losing my taste for a while. I found that each time I had the infusion I felt a bit under the weather and slightly tired for the first 10 days but for the rest of the 3 weeks I felt completely fine.
Hi I had my first EC on Friday it was fine going in. About 5 hours later I felt like I had a terrible hangover with really bad nausea all night. Have been ok since just been sleeping a lot but managing to eat and not be sick. Taking my last anti sickness tablets today so not sure if the nausea will come back tomoz.
Good luck for next week here if you wanna message me x
Thank you for getting back to me. I’m hoping for something similar with a 3 year old to manage as well
That sounds like the best outcome, did you find anything helped with the taste side of things?
I found that if I ate spicy foods like chilli or curry then I could taste the food and it wasn't just like eating cardboard. Also pineapple tasted exactly the same as normal, so I'd have pineapple chunks for pudding and I drank pineapple juice instead of orange juice for breakfast.
Hi
My experience of EC wasn't that great. I had 3 doses from October last year and then moved on to Paclitaxel for 9 weeks. Finished chemo last Friday!!!
Tiredness, nausea (but no vomiting), hair loss everywhere. Just general exhaustion but I was on a high dose.
I had incontinence for the first 10-12 days also after every infusion. I would recommend investing in some Tena pads to avoid staining and needing a pee all the time due to the "red devil".
My appetite took a pounding too. I lost interest in foods I used to love.. Only starting to get them back recently. Anything spicy or had a taste to it. I couldn't handle spice before. I lost almost 6 stone in 4 months.
I also had 2 infections as my whole immune system shut down but that was due to the dosage apparently
I hope your side effects aren't that bad
Take care
HI Marie31
I can feel what you are going through. I survived on coconut drinks, pear, water melon, boiled sweet potato, avocado and bread and butter. I cld not stand anything spicy and the smell of onions, soap drove me insane. I cld even smell every chemical in facial tissue.
The white blood cell injection made me feel worst but that was needed. I had to inject myself.
The beauty of it you get these feeling on every first week of chemo and second week you start recovering. This is when you need to get your strength back for the next round. Before you know it will all be over.
You will laugh if I say I watched tiktok constantly and when I didn't have strength I listened to Gospel songs which kept me going. By the way Tiktok was my husband's idea.
I wish you a brighter tomorrow
