Hi, I was diagnosed with HER +ve in my right breast (17mm). Grade 3, invasive, Grade 1 in my left breast HER -ve (15mm), My treatment started in October. it was 6 rounds of Docetaxel and Carboplatin, phesgo every 3 weeks and zoledronic acid (every 6 months) …it was brutal. The chemo was very harsh and not to go through all the side effects but I have never managed the 3 weeks, due to low neutrophils, only every 4 weeks. I had a CT scan and ultrasound this week and the good news is I was told I’ve had a complete pathological response and there are no signs of either tumours! Horay! No residedue…nothing… I was astonished. I am supposed to have 6 rounds of chemo. Does anyone know whether it is possible I won’t need the last two doses if I already have a CPR? I am having a double mastectomy due to having the PALB2 mutation, so not risking a lumpectomy. I know I will continue with part of the Phesgo (can’t remember which half!). Has anyone had a similar situation? I really wouldn't want to continue with chemo if it's not needed!

Welcome to the forum my name is Daisy53 and I'm one of the Community Champion on this forum.  It's good that you've had a complete response to the chemo you've had so far.  It will be up to your oncologist whether or not you have the last two doses of chemo, they may decide to give you the final two doses to mop up any stray cells that could be travelling around your body.  I suggest that you ring your chemo nurse to ask them about whether you need the final two doses or not.

Wishing you the best of luck with the rest of your treatment and your operation.

    Best wishes

  • Hi

Great to hear you have had a full response to the treatment. I was on the same chemo regime as yourself I was told at the half way point that the tumours had shrunk. I then had a mastectomy after I finished the chemo. Unfortunately my pathology results showed some live cells. They have now switched the Phesgo for Kadcyla hercepin and chemo which was a shock currently doing 15 rounds of radiotherapy which I knew I was getting.
