Hi guys

I'm 5 weeks post lumpectomy and lymph node clearance 2 nodes out of 13 positive of spread. Oncologist has recommended oncotype to see if chemo would be beneficial (he thinks 1 in 5 chance of needing it). But chemo dept has given me an appointment for pic line and treatment for same week I'm expecting results.

Has anyone else had oncotype and how long did it take to get back please

  • Hi Wave

I had an Oncotype test, I had a lumpectomy and full node clearance. I’m 53 and they assumed I was Post Menopausal so went ahead with the test. I was told I didn’t t need chemo as my score was low (12/100)  - it took just under 3 weeks to come back (over Xmas period)

I went for my radiotherapy appointment where they realised I was still very much in Peri Menopause, so I’ve been told I will now need chemo first, then Radiotherapy.
They said if they realised I was still in Peri, then they wouldn’t have done the Oncotype test, as the low score to a degree is irrelevant as the best option would be to offer chemo.

It was all a bit confusing and quite upsetting thinking I’d dodged the Chemo to be told I needed it now xxx

  • Thank you for your reply, I'm 56 but I had ablation a few back so my oncologist is doing blood test to ensure I'm postmenopausal. I hope your treatment goes well xx

  • Ah I keep my fingers crossed for you.

That’s the bloods they done at my Radiotherapy apt.

i think it had been assumed that I was post meno, but I’d been under gynae also and was still having bleeds. It only took a week to get those bloods back.

    good luck xxx
